24GB on i7-xxx?

So did you run the full 24GB or only 12GB total? I'm trying to find out for certain if 24GB is ok before spend spend spend!

I have a couple dozen machines all running 24GB on x58 without issue. Most of them even running 1600Mhz ;)

You shouldent have any problems, unless its a Sabertooth with Patriot memory >.> they seem to be very picky.

Thanks for the reply Tau. So would you recommend picking up 24GB of DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz instead of DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz? Do you have any kit list specs or posts from when you've built your existing boxes?

Have got the following lined up so far...

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 960 3.20Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366)
G-Skill 12GB Ripjaws DDR3 Memory PC3-1333 10666MHz 1.5V Cas9 Dual Channel Kit (3 x 4GB) with heatspreader x 2

I have the UD5 version of that board on my test bench, it runs fine with 24GB Kingston 1600 hyperX, 1600 Vengence, XMS3 CL7 and CL9. The only issues that I have seen is mostly on the sabertooth (very picky board, because of the cheap LGA sockets), and it is mostly with Patriot memory. Aside from that I have seen few issues, and NO issues on my UD5.

to give you a concept of how large my selection is I have installed and handled about 1.5TB of memory sofar this month ;) on every motherboard you could name basically... lol :p

Not bad for a mATX rig eh?

Right now I'm using the stock heat sink, but when I was using these GSkill Ripjaws in my AMD rig, I used a Xigmatec tower HS and just bent some of the fins down out of way on one side. I've got 16 gigs of Mushkin RAM just sitting, waiting for the birth of the Rampage IV Gene. I'll have no clearance problems with that set.

Bam! I did it. Not had a chance to put it through it's paces yet but just want to say thanks very much for the help received. Next mission. RAID!!

X58 supports up to 48gb of RAM and higher clocked RAM will be automatically downclocked if the memory controller can't handle the configuration.

Cool. Had it running at 1333mhz for the last few days with no problems. WIll try and bump it up to the rated 1600mhz if things start slowing down, but not much point right now.

I'm having a hell'uva time getting 24GB to work on my eVGA x58 Board. I have matching G-Skill DDR3 1600 and it's on the boards compatibility list. I have the latest BIOS etc..and it's only seeing 20GB of memory when all DIMMS are populated. All memory works on it's own so I don't think it's the memory and all slots work, when less then 24GB..so it's not the slots. I'll be opening a ticket with eVGA today. I should've learned my lesson when I had nothing but issues with my old 680i but got the combo cheap.

For reference, the GA-X58A-UD3R motherboard does not support VT-d passthru so in hindsight I may have picked a different mobo (Asus P6X58D-E probably).
