I work for an Air ambulance company and we use three monitors using separate desktops for all the different software apps they use. We are looking for a single card solution that is cheaper than 200$. We think that this card is what we need. Now I have acquired one to test, I guess I am to much of a noob to get this card to work right. We have 2 dvi monitors and a HDMI monitor currently. Now if I use the 2 dvi ports and try the HDMI it will only show 2 monitors, is the HDMI and Display port attached to the dual link dvi port? I cant find anything out there to answer my question. Anyone have any suggestions?

You need an active display port to DVI for the third monitor. The 6850 only have clock generators for 2 screens at once. You need to use display port for more then 2.

Connect 1 display with DVI, the other with HDMI and the third with active DP to DVI:

The 6850 uses mini-displayport, so if you didn't get a mini-dp to dp, you need one of those too.

Why not use this:

You can connect 3X DVI without need for any adapter. :) If its not for gaming, that card would be sufficient. :)

Well, this is the card we got http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150505
I dont think that is a mini-displayport, I do have an active diplayport to dvi adapter, but it would only work with one dvi(single port), it would only show 2 monitors. So am I wrong that this card supports more than 2 monitors, I swear that xfx states on their website that these support DP + HDMI + Dual DVI which allows for play across four screens. Very misleading if not true. I have read about some adapter that is a breakout box for the displayport that can support 4 monitors. Will bring that video card up, was looking into them, just seems expensive considering the price of the 6850.

It supports play across four screens. Connect 2 screens on the DP ports and two screens by using either HDMI or DVI. That is 4 screens. If you don't have two screens with DP connector, you need adapter.

If you use a DP to DVI adapter and it doesn't work, chances are that its not an active adapter or defect. :)

Here's a link where you can see different configurations:

I think I found my problem, I have been a tech for quite some time and have seen xp come and go. WE are running xp on our pc's in the comm center, turns out xp will not support more than 2 monitors on a single video card, gonna load to windows 7 and test.

Well, loaded windows 7 and it recognizes three monitors now, just will not let me activate all three, think my displayport to dvi adapter is not active. Jeese, what else.

IF what you are gonna use isn't 3d intensive i am pretty sure that you can go to even a 5670-5750 level and be able to work with 3 monitors.

Are there any really inexpensive 3-port video card that support 3 monitors? Most of the 3-port video cards still only support two monitors (i.e. DVI xor HDMI instead of both at the same time).

you need any 3 port video card that has Displayport as one of the three ports

and an ACTIVE displayport to DVI adapter... they are pretty cheap now if you only go up to 1200p

Singleslot XFX 5570 (lifetime warranty) $70 plus adapter $30 = $100... all digital connections
