Supermicro hits Super Effecient.

Super Micro took the news of their Twin Blade solution to the CeBit computer show in Hannover, Germany. The Twin Blade suports 20 dual-socket server blades per 7u enclosure. What sets the industry-leading bar though is its 94 percent power supply efficiency.

Quote:
The company’s new Double-Sided Storage system also pays special attention to the power supply: they also operated at Platinum level efficiency.

Pretty amazing density obviously you'd have to use 50w processors. Wonder how it compares to the IBM iDataplex stuff for density

I wish they still made consumer boards. Their server boards are great in my experience.

From supermicro's site:

CPU

* Dual 1366-pin LGA Sockets
* Supports up to two Intel® 64-bit Xeon® processor(s) of the same type below:
o Quad-Core Intel®
Xeon®Processor 5500 sequence (Nehalem-EP processor)
* NOTE: Support processors up to 95W

BTW: They also still make consumer boards. C7x58 is their x58 board. Their single socket xeon boards X8S stuff should also take normal 1366/1156 processors as well. (Listed as supported)

Also, just today, a new Q57 board showed up on their site:

It might be able to use 95w processors, doesn't mean you should though.

24kw just on processor power is an awful lot to dissipate from a rack. It's doable with air, easy with water but the L5530's (forgot that the L processors are 60w not 50w) would definitely be a better option as a general rule given that density.

If their q57 board's look is any idication they're not targeting the [H]ardcore builder.
