Was surfing google and stumbled upon this. I dont believe I missed this one since I always go on rage3d
Mini Review Another one here Another review Another snippet here Another review Doesnt show a whole lot of games but you can get an idea of what this mainstream card pulls in. Cant wait, this will be my next upgrade! Last edited by enzolt; 10-12-2009 at 07:18 PM..

Looks like it holds its weight very well next to the HD4850.

It should beat a 4850. It has similar specs to the 4890 (except for the lower bandwidth, but it still has more bandwidth than the 4850).

based on the reviews, the memory bandwidth is holding it back. i would much rather get an hd4890 now knowing this

HD5770 has very fast GDDR5 which once software voltage over clocked should be close to being on par with HD4890 performance. Then you have lower temps with HD5770. Next comes Direct X11 shader technology. Lastly you will have lower PSU requirements for the HD5770 which is a single 6 pin power connection. It is kind of early for me to make these claims but I've seen a few benchmarks already. HD5770 seems like the winner for the reasons I have posted. Even if it's not quite as powerful as the HD4890.

But it seems the Memory Interface of 128-bit really hurts the 5770.
Curse ATI for not giving it 192-bit or something... Thought the 5770 was going to be my next card.

To be fair, not everyone, even on this forum, want to OC their video card.

Because for the same amount, I can get way better performance for my money.

Bleh, I always install third-party coolers anyways, superficial to me. Ill give it a year before it gets widespread use. Quote:
Its not a bad card by all means. I guess if I want REAL performance, I have to chug out cash for the Cypress family.

Me too.
The HD5700 series should interest many more people than me. I forgot to mention that the HD5700 series also has the "eye infinity" multi display technology which is another + over HD4890.

Did you read any of those threads. The 5770 overclocks to over 950+ mhz core in CCC. With some overvoltage it might go to 1Ghz. That's a lot of overclockability!

Yeah, the HD 5770 basically competes against the HD 4870, although the HD 4870 is faster overall. The price point of the HD 5770 should help clear out current inventories of the slightly cheaper and faster HD 4870.
The HD 5770 is a good upgrade for those who want HD 4870-ish performance without having to upgrade a relatively weak PSU. DX11 would just be icing on the cake since there are any real DX11 games yet. ------------------------------------------- The HD 5750 is actually more comparable to the HD 4850 than the HD 5770 to the HD 4870 since performance and price are both relatively the same. People looking to upgrade to the HD 4850 should get the HD 5750 instead because of lower power requirements and DX11. The HD 5750 seems to be a good video card for an HTPC for moderate gaming at the moment. But AMD/ATI should be releasing lower end cards to fill this niche (HD 56xxx) sometime next year I think. And similar to the HD 46xx series, they should not require an additional power connector.

If I am moving to Windows 7 later this month, is a 5770 a good upgrade for me over say a 4850 512MB? I typically don't buy GPUs that often. I game @ 1650 x 1050 and the only game I play religiously is WoW atm (though that will change in the future w/ Dragon Age, KOTOR MMO, Modern Warfare 2 etc.)
Just looking for any advice here because I'm really looking hard @ these new 5770s.

5770 appears to be about par with the 4870 for performance, so yes it should beat out a 4850.

go for the 5770, dragon age will be graphically intensive from what i've seen, and it will help to have a stronger card for it. Since you are only playing at 1680x1050 it shouldn't really hurt, but if you were higher (1920x1080/1920x1200) the 5850 would've been the card for you.

Not worth the upgrade going from HD 4850 to HD 4870/5770. The HD 5770 is slightly slower than the HD 4870.
Save up some more money and go for either HD 4890 or HD 5850 if your PSU can handle them. I expect a HD 5830 will be release to bridge the price and performance gap between the HD 5770 and HD 5850, but who knows when that is being released.

i think I'd still get the 4870 since it is somewhat cheaper, but I'd get either a 5770/4870 over a 4850 at this point.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...ue&Order=PRICE The 5770 doesn't outperform a 4890, true. But then again it costs ~40 dollars less. It does go head to head against the 4870 though which is currently slightly cheaper. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scription=5770 Hmm I just noticed that the XFX 5770 is $15 more than the others. Has Newegg spotted a trend and increased its price to avoid it selling out so fast, or does XFX charge more for their 5770s?

The 5770 doesn't really change anything for 4850 users. The 4870 has been at the <$160 price point for quite some time. The sensible thing to do is wait until the 5850 drops to the price at which the 4850 launched, $199.
