Annoying SMART Failure.

I have a Samsung Spinpoint F1 HD502IJ drive about 3 months old.

On every boot I get a Drive failure warning.

HD Tune 2.55 says: (B8) (unknown attribute) Failed

There is no documentation that I can find to explain what this actually means, and not only is there no firmware fixes that I can find, Samsung does not even appear to reconise F1 as a product they sell on their support site.

A HD Tune Error Scan comes up clean.

Am I missing something? Is there anything I can do to further diagnose this error?

Are you getting any errors reading or writing to the drive? I'd try contacting Samsung, see what they say, and if you can possibly get it RMA'd.

It has no read write errors with Windows, nor a HD Tune surface error scan.

Edit: seems it is still under manufacturer warrentee, started an RMA.

If I had any important data on that drive, I'd have it copied and that drive out of my system asap.

A smart error is a good indication of impending drive demise. While not perfect in every case, I would definately RMA it if I was you.
