How does the 216 compare with the 192 version after overclocking? The 192 is of course slower at stock speeds but I heard over at tomshardware that it overclocks better. With the extra overclock the 192 is supposed to be equal to the 216 version. Is this really true?

Can you post a link to what is being said over at Tom's? I'm still debating a step up from 2 vanilla 192s to a couple of 216 cores.

From above link,
"I would stay away from the SP216, it clocks less than the old 260. With the extra overclock room that the old 260 GTX http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce_9_Series has it can be pushed past the Oced 216 GTX and it will cost you 100$ less in some cases.

I would recommend the old 260 since it runs cooler, and when overclocked to FTW (and it can overclocked alot more from FTW) it outperforms the 260 SP 216 and the 280 GTX in most cases:D "

This is exactly why I'm sticking with my vanilla 260 192 @ 725/1450/1250. My step up runs out in 2 days and the upgrade to the 216 would cost me $5. I just couldn't stomach LOSING performance if the 216 can't OC up to my 192's speeds. Too much of a gamble.
