Just in case anybody is looking for a simple guide...

Instructions for installing a second GPU as a dedicated PPU into your system under Vista.

1- Insure the cards your are using are 8 series or later.
Note: Currently a GPU acting as a dedicated PPU, requires a disply device to be connected to it. This requirement is being worked on. You can use a seperate disply, or only one display, providing it can receive dual signals. Plug your GPU into your display your normal way, then connect the PPU to another open input of the same display. We can use converters or whatever we need to make this happin. The PPU will know it's connected to a disply device, so it's need is satisfied, and now will properly function as a dedicated PPU.

2- Install the program PhysX, and driver version 177.39 or later.
Note: Some drivers install PhysX as part of their install, and some do not. Find out if the driver you select, includes PhysX too. If not, you will need to install that as a seperate download.

3- Install both cards into the PC, and power it on.

4- Right click on your desktop, and select personalize. Next click Display Settings. The Display Settings box appears, and we must select the small '2' indicating we are running a dual display. (Even though we are not.) Tick the "extend desktop to this monitor" box and hit apply. Make sure you choose the desktop of the card you will be using as the PPU to extend to.
Note: You must run PhysX as administrator, or it won't save your changes.

5- Start the program PhysX by clicking Start, and in the search box enter 'physx', and hit enter. The program should start if installed. Go to the "settings" tab, enable GeForce PhysX and click "Select GPU for GeForce PhysX". Select your card to use as a dedicated PPU, hit OK, then OK on the control panel and you're done!
