So, when are the High Dynamic Range Monitors coming?

10, 15 years?

Dot not quite have enough money to get one now.

Just looked up the company behind the article,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BrightS...chnologies_Inc.

Seems they were acquired by Dolby, lets hope something is done with it, displays look bright for the future, even beyond H-IPS, if they succeed in bringing it to mass market.

I really do love civilization, and engineers, and scientists.

it still has all the downfalls of LCD's (response time, lag, viewing angle etc...), only the backlight is different but the actual display is LCD.

Samsung already has something similiar with its LED backlight, but like the brightside demo, it does produce halos in some scenes. This should be available in weeks in its 81-series LCD tvs, except that the peak brightness levels you really want for HDR aren't really there yet.

The problem is LED output and efficiency and that's still a few years away from producing "real life" brightness. They could, but the LED density would be very high, producing much heat and increasing the chances of problems.
