I implemented this on Tuesday of last week due to a dramatic increase in spam ( specifically stock pumpers ). On Monday I recieved 213 spams in my inbox, 190 of which were filtered by spamassassin so I never saw them. That still left 23 that made it to my inbox. On Wednesday, I received 1 spam that was caught by spamassissin.
It's called greylisting, and if you run sendmail+mimedefang, you already have what you need to implement it. I highly recommend everyone at least look into this, if not implement it. It will save you all from a metric shit load of spam ( and your users, not to mention your servers won't be working as hard ).
