Galaxy S3 exploding battery

Well not really exploding but everyone likes to say that about Li-ion batteries, seriously though my battery did burst.

Why would this happen? Battery had been in phone for about a month and was probably at 5% or less of a charge so wasn't overcharged.

Battery was probably bad and on its way out when you got it.

Li-ion phones batteries go all balloon like usually in response to gases building up inside frequently from heat.

Interesting S3 batteries are $20 or less so not a big deal even though it did pop the screen a bit
