The 8800GTX I used this idea on didnt even let the computer post.
And it worked!!!!!

I've used a method like this to fix the GPU on a Thinkpad T40 - except I used a heat gun because I knew exactly where the problem was.

I've been considering disassembling my hp notebook that died on me awhile back. HP's extended support links drill down through my model number and serial number but end in only a handful of P/N numbers which don't include mine. There are other problems with HP's like the hinges cracking, and there was just a recall on their exploding batteries too. Mine died just after the display started showing screen artifacts, then it showed fine colored lines oscillating diagonally on the lcd like some old fashioned crt tube defect almost. After that, the display only shows backlight and no post/beeps or anything when I turn it on.

The gpu is integrated into the mobo I believe. Its a dv93339us with a nvidia go7600 gpu. Since its a paperweight I don't have much to lose.

I'm pretty sure I threw out an old X800GTO card that wouldn't post a few months ago, but I'll dig around. If I still have it, I'm definitely giving this a try.

So I was considering using some sort of heat method on the hp mobo+go7600 gpu. I'd take the motherboard out and remove the ram and cpu of course

The oven doesn't sound like a bad idea. The guy in this thread used a tea lamp with rubbing alcohol in it.

Here is an article from late last yr regarding nvidia soldering.

I wouldnt be too sure about that, this is the internet, 1 or 2 are probably legit, whilst the rest probably just jumped on the bandwagon for whatever reason.

But regardless, it is a good fix for certain problems and is worth it if you are out of warranty.

Meh, i'd believe most of them, simply because of how spotty hardware gets after 2-3 years of heavy use, and high temperatures.

thats how old my 8800 was when it died. almost 3 years. heavy overclock its whole life and the heatsink had been removed/installed multiple times.
