Gigabyte X58 NEW BIOS F10 FTW!
The new BIOS is out finally!!
So far it's great. Says it has NEW better memory control!! I can't even boot with it now. WTF! LOL In all fairness, I didn't let it boot with the stock settings first before OCing it, but did finally. Tonight I'll go back in and load my 3.8Ghz profile that was stable on the F7 BIOS. Says it's suppose to have better memory control. Since I can't get anymore than 1140 Freq. from my RAM, we'll see if this is the case for me. I also went from F3 to F10, since I had a BIOS curriuption message and then the MB loaded the backup BIOS, which was F3. Do any of you think this will cause a problem? Maybe I should reload F7 then go to F10?

If you follow the procedure in the manual there should be no issue jumping from one bios version to a much earlier or later one. I do it all the time and have heard nothing about any need to go "step by step" in any of the newer boards and can think of no reason one would need to go in order. A flash is a flash. But do follow the directions, flashing at other than factory default settings has caused reports of issues.

What's the new memory control? I recently went from F6e to F9m (which has the very nice Dynamic Voltage Control), but I don't want to flash again unless there are some tangible benefits to be reaped.

All it says is "Enhanced Memory Control" which, as far as I go, bullshit. I can't get my rig to even POST unless I set the CPU to 2.6 and turn all my voltages down. With F7 I was stable, and the only problem was that if I went to sleep in S3 mode, suspend to RAM, I could not wake up the OS.
Now I can't even POST unless I run at stock speeds. I also have my timings set at 10 10 10 26 88. So something is clearly wrong with this BIOS version. Also, is I let the BIOS set the CPU frequency, it wants to set it at 2.0 at x15. WTF? Gigabyte has a bad BIOS with the F10 x58 UD5 v.1, unless I did something wrong. I think I'll try the F9. Let me know. I hope I've done something wrong. I didn't flash it at stock settings though. I'll flash it again and see what I get. I'm just getting tired of getting up to reset the fucking BIOS. You can do a straight flash from any bios version. Bioses do not need "upgraded" and you can switch between any version you want at anytime.
However, I would recommend to not load profiles from different bioses. This could lead to instability or general problems because of slight changes to the bios.

Well, I can't believe this,
I used a x21 multiplier and lower voltages for RAM and QPI and thus got my RAM to 1066. Now I just booted with a 3.8 OC. Seems rock solid. I'm going to try and sleep and see if it comes out of it. If so all I have to do is tweak the BIOS and I'm good to go! I'm going to try leaving voltages where they are and increasing RAM freq. I have a hard time believing that I can increase the RAM speed though. That seems to be the common denominator to my system problems. At 12GB I guess you just can't run at normal RAM speeds, which for me is 1600. Everything seems great. I can come out of S3 sleep now and the F10 bios, and F9, have the dynamic Voltage control. Seems to work ECELLENT. Now I can idle at stock CPU speed temps and have Speed Fan reduce my entire rig to silent running! Nice! Very happy camper here Last edited by DougWD; 02-09-2010 at 04:04 AM..
