The master backup plan is to upgrade the PSU with a Sparkle 270W. I bookmarked Archeas YouTube video - just in case.
Good luck, and please post a youtube video, too!

Windows 7 64bit and s3435.uk slimline

Dear All,

Back in post 3570 I mentioned issues with copying files to mass storage devices connected on the USB with Windows 7. Well, after lots of investigation I have discovered that Microsoft have released a patch. The issue affects all computers with a NVidia nForce chipset version 6 and above.

Please see:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972

If no joy with the hotfix request mechanism, go to:

http://www.walkernews.net/2009/11/13...-ehci-chipset/

Information found from:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...-b20b68eaecf8/

http://windows7tipsonline.com/USB_Problem.htm

I've already posted this to the HP forum on lockups!

Many many thanks to all who have helped me with this issue.

Price for the PSU adaptor is $24 with shipping.

http://www.atxpowersupplies.com/20-p...-converter.htm

I just wanted to point out that this $14 cable will cost you $24 shipped.

I bought one today because my PSU died.

This thread is very helpful.

There is a seller in ebay, (USA).

If you search "HP ITX," 9/10 days will land you on a page that sells the adaptor for 15usd shipped.

Best of luck!

EDIT:
and welcome to the [H]!

HD 4650 Update

With a little bit of twisting, shoving and shouting, the ASUS HD 4650 is now firmly seated in its slot and fanning itself (I think). The added bonus is that there is now a VGA port on this card - which I don't think I'll need. The WEI score for Desktop (Aero) graphics went up from 4.9 to a staggering (drumroll)........5.0! Everything is very cool so far!

PS and no 'artifacts' in sight!

Strange that there are differences in the WEI core: mine is 5.1 for Desktop (from 4.8 with the 8600). But the number for Gaming went from 6.0 to 6.4. But how important of relevant is it? It's merely a way of checking whether newer hardware is "better than" your old TMHO.
In Catalyst you can check tthe Fan Speed in the ATTi Overdrive section. You can also speedup your fan to 100%. In my case the noise goes up and audible from my normal position (approx. 3m from my screen). In normal usage the fanspeed is between 40 and 50%. The temp is around 50'C.

How MS calculates the WEI score must be one of the mysteries of computing. I can't hear any difference in the noise level. Isn't the fan speed adjusted automatically, depending upon the load on the video card?

There are few factors in WEI, but the most annoying:
Your scores are artificially limited by what your hardware is detected as.

Also, if you are still wanting those number counts, then Furmark 3dmark 06/3dmark vantage is a better tool for that.

Use GPUz to check tempuratures, and most cards report their fanspeeds in GPUz. If the tempurature is about 80C (slimline 'gaming load' temps), then everything is fine.

if not, then open up CCC, goto overdrive, and click on the little lock icon, acknowledge it, then set your fan speed to (not 100%, but about 70% does fine) a decent clip.
