Non-matte displays are slightly brighter and have slightly better colors. Remember, matte displays are matte because they have a dimming agent applied to the screen, so while external light can't bounce off the screen, the light coming from the display panel is also affected.

Whether you want one or the other is personal preference. I dig non-matte because I like my displays bright and clear, and I'm usually not in environments that would create reflections in the first place. Indirect light, etc.

SyncMaster 275T. I got my Photoshop CS4 loaded up last night (finally) which installed a bunch of extra profiles for the monitor. I was playing around with the profiles on the Samsung just to see if any made a difference and found one "Wide Gamut RGB" that actually gets the screen close in colour to my calibrated iMac.

On that basis I'll have to try a recalibration of the Samsung again just to see if I can match them up completely but oddly enough, the Wide Gamut RGB profile gets the screen pretty close to my iMac. Not a perfect match but a lot better than my first calibration attempt with the Spyder2. There is still no comparison though as side by side, you can clearly see the iMac screen is a superior image. The 275T is by no means a lousy display but it just is not in the same league as this new iMac screen. Cheers!

Also, don't forget that the new 27" iMac supports video in, so the OP could plug his MBP into the iMac if he ever needed to. Why you would, I don't know, but you could.

I am tempted to pull the trigger on the 27" but...

not sure if these "flickering screen" problems have been resolved yet...
