Stupid HDMI issue with new HDTV
I just received my first LCD TV today, a Toshiba 46XV645U. Plugged it into my PC using a DVI-HDMI converter on my EVGA GeForce 260 GTX FTW, while my computer was running no less- instantly recognized it and set it to 1920x1080, no problem.. Well, at least no problem until I went to reboot about 12 hours later.
Reboot, and the computer wouldn't even recognize the TV anymore. I tried forcing detection through the Device manager, and voila, it seemed to work! But then ANOTHER issue-- it's now telling me that the TV failed the HDMI check (and was now listed as non-plug and play) and was now being limited to 1024x768 resolution. For THREE HOURS I fucked around with it, to no avail.. Then suddenly I recalled reading something about somebody having a similar issue months ago, and it being heat related.. So I manually set my GPU fan to 80% and let it cool down to 40C.. EUREKA! I forced it again in Device Manager, it instantly detected it as a Toshiba HDTV and set it to 1080p.
So now, there is one big problem.. What the hell is the problem, exactly, and how am I going to solve this over the long term, without just jacking my video card fan up to 80-90% permanently? Is this just a problem with DVI-HDMI converters?
Just wondering if anybody here has run into a similar issue and solved it somehow, without just blasting the video card fan.
