Need to clone a drive...from 160GB to 80GB.

system's running Windows 7, installed on a 160GB. I need to move that installation down to an 80gb, maybe even 40gb.

less than 10GB of data is on the drive.

Going from 160 of 100MB for system (hidden), c:\ of remainder to an 80 or 40 of 100MB for system (hidden), c:\ of remainder

And the question is?

Yes you can do it; image/bit copy it, then move to the new drive.

How do I go about doing that?

Acronis and Macrium don't seem to want to go from a larger to a smaller drive.

Ghost doesn't mind going from larger to smaller, just as long as the amount of data required isn't exceeded.

huh, thought acronis would do it. strange.
pretty sure clonezilla does it (just don't choose sector by sector)
another thing you can try is to just resize your current partition in windows 7 using disk management and then copy it using acronis.

Seems you're right about Macrium (I use it all the time) not going from large to small disk; they're working on it; I am surprised. Too bad; great software, and a free version.
