Hate to admit but iPhone still best over Android and BlackBerry :(
I hate to actually admit this, but out of the 3 smart phones I have used the last year and a half, the iPhone, BlackBerry, and Android, the iPhone is the better device right now. I was never an Apple fan, more of a custom PC guy myself, always thought the Apple buyers were wimpy, emo, fags, no offense, but anyways...
I bought my first smart phone Summer of July 2008, the iPhone 3G. Before that was always using standard basic flip phone for talking only, no texting or e-mail. So I got the iPhone back then, and instantly loved it, it was night and day crazy cooler and better than anything even close to what I had before, plus the iPhone was very easy to learn and felt comfortable right away with it. Fast forward 9 months later, and my work place was hurting, and they didn't want to pay the $180 monthly ATT bill anymore, which I can't blame them. So I went back to T-Mobile which the whole company was on. And at the time of February 2008, the coolest phone they had available was the brand new at the time, BlackBerry 8900 Curve. Getting that was a total shock to the system after the iPhone, it felt like going from a 21st century OS, to Windows 95. The BlackBerry just felt dated, the look of the menus, and operation felt like it was designed in the 90's or something. But I got used to it after a few days, never totally comfortable with it, but it was the best for texting, and great for e-mails, better than the iPhone. But for web browsing and media it sucked balls. But it was nice phone after awhile. Then my BlackBerry broke after dropping too many times, and the company switched to ATT for their main provider, so I got my iPhone back on, and it was like finding that lost puppy, or your favorite pair of jeans again, but that was short lived. Then I left that company, because they were hurting big time, didn't want to be on the Titantic as she sank. New place had T-Mobile again, so I said, hey let me get one of these Android phones, they are all the rage, and I have been following the Android line since I heard about it a few years ago, was always interested in getting one, thought they were the true iPhone killer. Boy was I wrong. I got the MyTouch, and to me the Android feels like a combo of the iPhone and BlackBerry mixed together, if that makes sense, but in a bad way. Not sure what the deal is with Android, is it a iPhone copy, or fancy BlackBerry ? It seems like Android will be cool, with like the 3.0 version in 2011, with faster hardware, but it's not the slow hardware that is my gripe, but mainly the whole setup and design just feels weird, the menus and setup does remind me of BlackBerry alot, but I am just not comfortable with this Android phone, I have tweaked the apps, downloaded tons of stuff to make it better, but it still feels strange to me. The iPhone I got used to right away, the BlackBerry took a little longer but a few days and I liked it, but this Android now a week, and still not liking it.

Agreed whole-heartedly.
Still, since I'm on Verizon, I'll be picking up a Moto DROID so hopefully Android 2.0 is a bit better.

iPhone is the easiest to use of any smart phone.. maybe that is what you like about it? The way everything is laid out and organized.
I've enjoyed my iPhone for more than 2 years now.. (original and the 3G) and I am ready for a change.. it doesn't excite me anymore. I barely touch my apps, don't even usually bother to update them anymore.. I don't even use the ipod for music.. just tired of it. I'm looking for something new and tweakable.. and I think Android 2.0 will fit that bill just fine.

I find it incredibly unorganized. Just like everything Apple, icons icons icons icons. Until recently you really couldnt move the order of them around easily.

I'm glad that you enjoy your iPhone, they are great devices. However, I don't feel that it's anyone's place to label one platform better than the other especially with limited experience.
There are people who love the BB Bold, Tours, and Storm 2 (not the first Storm it was a beta device ). There are also people who prefer Android, Android with Sense UI, Android with Moto Blur.<Whisper>There are even people who love WinMo, but you didn't hear it from me!</Whisper> My point is that people have the preference. I prefer Android to iPhone OS, that's the reason that I'll be selling my 3GS to fund my move to Verizon for either the Droid or Passion. My biggest reason for liking Android is the use of Widgets, the notification system, and the customization without having to "jailbreak" or root the device. I will say that the iPhone is a fantastic and fluid portable media device that is tough to beat, but at the end of the day it comes down to the preference of the end user. Enjoy your iPhone, thanks for sharing your thoughts and opinion. I know there are many that agree with you.

If by "recently" you mean "over two years ago" then yes.

I've never dropped my 8900 and it still works, not a scratch on it. GO FIGURE.

Let us know how it is. I'm tempted to jump ship and leave my iPhone if the experience is good with the Droid.

Wow you still use an Iphone?...I gave mine up long ago for Android. You might not like it but for me its a never go back situation. I love everything about the Mytouch, except the screen is to small for me, but that seems to be changing with the new devices coming out.

The iPhone is a good phone for average consumers - easy to use, flashy, and reliable (the phone, not the network). Apple identified winmo's weaknesses (interface and app lag/crashing due to insufficient RAM and bad coding) and trumped them with a flashy interface and the removal of multitasking (techies might whine about it, but it makes the phone more stable). The app store keeps people engaged and excited. It's too bad that ATT's coverage stinks in many areas.
Blackberries are perfect for corporate environments - they're all business and are built around contacts, email, and scheduling. It's almost laughable to have an iphone in our firm - they are looked at as phones for high schoolers and college students. No real app store to speak of, but corporate types aren't as excited about tweeting or making their phones fart (although fart apps do exist). Winmo phones are having an identity crisis. They began in the corporate world and still do great with exchange servers (even better than blackberries). Now they are trying to compete in the iPhone's world by making their buttons bigger. Many winmo devices are still shipping with skimpy RAM and 4-year-old CPU's. Companies like HTC are doing a good job covering up winmo and increasing hardware specs, but it's an uphill battle. MS is still trying to figure out the app store. Android could be a game changer, we will see. All android 1.x phones were basically extended betas - phone manufactures took their winmo phones and threw Android 1.x on them. We'll see what the droid and other 2.0 phones bring. Their app store has already overrun Microsoft's. Google has the potential to make life miserable for Palm, MS, and RIM. I'm optimistic and plan to give the droid a shot since I've already used all the others. Palm is a disaster. The glory days are over. Without major changes, soon they will rest beside companies like iomega. In summary - the consumer wins. You can't go wrong with most of the new smart phones and the big three are all fighting to outdo each other.

A few months with an iPhone were enough to convince me it may be the most powerful, tiny computer ever produced. It's a great product. It's not, however, a great phone. Dropped calls, lousy 3G coverage, overly expensive plans all have soured me on my iPhone. I'll be jumping to a 2.0 Android phone as soon as I find one that grabs me. I love the HTC HD2, but WinMo doesn't have nearly the potential of Android.

I am going to download the brand new "blacksn0w" on my iPhone to be able to use it on the only supported U.S. Carrier = T-Mobile, which I already have now, for $79 a month full Unlimited. Will report back if it works ?

They keep labeling that android has the potential to do all this amazing stuff. However, I have yet to see anything that impresses me. I think windows mobile 7 will change things. If they relase the hd2 over here in america, I'd highly consider getting rid of my iphone for it. Does anyone know if tmobile offers an internet only plan? What would something like that cost?

Blacksn0w works, I unlocked the iPhone I'm selling this afternoon.
That being said, I picked up a Hero this weekend, and after hating it for a few days, I uninstalled some stock apps and replacing them with non-HTC, non bloated software, this is a pretty damn good phone.

Do I need my T-Mobile SIM card in the iPhone for it to work, or can I keep the same one that came with the iPhone in there when doing this unlock ?
