Asus Maximus Formula SE (X38 Express), any owners here??
I bought Maximus Formula Special Edition two days ago. Everything seems fine, and stable.
But ASUS PC ProbeII gives BSOD after I install it and run it. I've updated BIOS to 0504 dated 10/01/2007, still no luck. other monitoring softwares such as fineCoreTemp, Speedfan work fine. Has anyone got their PC ProbeII work with Maximus?

Just to ask where do you live? Or if that is too personal of a question, where did you buy it (and if an online reseller, can you link the site please?) Didn't know it was possible to buy the board yet.

Arvig, I'm in Korea. X38 Express based mobos (Asus, Gigabyte) are officially released here in Korea and Japan.

Why is the maximum FSB is only 1333MHz but the P5E is 1600MHz? I wanted to buy the maximus because it is already in stock here but I guess that I'll wait for the P5E.

Is the P5E a DDR3 board? That would explain a lot right there. The Maximus Formula is the DDR2 board of the Maximus extreme. Otherwise, I don't know.

Yeah, according to ASUS, it supports FSB 1600 officially.
I would not recommend this board yet. Currently, it exhibits vdroop and "CPU Voltage Damper" does not exist in BIOS. (I hope ASUS updates BIOS to include this feature). But from what I've seen in ASUS's latest support re: P5K Premium SATA2 fiasco, I wouldn't hold my breath. CPU Voltage Damper featured in P5K series. Maximus Formula SE replaced my P5K-E (P5K-E died on me). Voltage Damper worked in P5K-E, Deluxe as well as Premium, except for vanilla P5K. (Vanilla P5K only had 3 phase power). Anyway, Maximus does not have eSATA support either which might be important for some.

I just found out that in BIOS, "Loadline calibration" is what it suppose to eliminate (or should I say minimize) vdroop. I set it enabled, and I get about 0.03V difference in vcore between idle, and load (Orthos). At the moment, I just can't remember how much vcore difference there was with my previous P5K-E (with CPU Voltage Damper = Enabled) between idle and load.
UPDATE : Just tested with Loadline calibration = Enabled and Disabled. Doesn't seem to make any difference in terms of vdroop. I get vcore difference of 0016~0.024V between idle and load and whether Loadline calibration is enabled or disabled doesn't seem to make any difference. This is a reading from CPU-Z, by the way. AFAIK, CPU-Z takes vcore reading from BIOS. Last edited by ShePearl; 10-07-2007 at 12:09 PM..

Appeared in uk today
Uk pics here Asus Maximus Formula SE X38 looks very tasty But have also been following it here ASUS Maximus Formula SE where results seem a bit mixed. also been looking at this due next week i believe. Abit IX38 QuadGT like i said in the xtreme fhread above:- Last 2 boards have been Asus, commando , which is also ROG (5/10) & p5k dlxe (9/10) I do feel that quality & support are a bit of a lottery with asus, but as usual, the board looks good.I'm unsure which to get cheers ![]() Last edited by Supershanks; 11-04-2007 at 11:10 AM..

Abit X38
To Supershanks: Take a look at the Abit X38 board and notice how close to the edge of the board they have placed the CPU mounting. Compare this with the Asus X38 boards. If you use a large CPU cooler, this will just make the cooler extend that much further beyond the edge of the board. In some computer cases, this may conflict with the power supply or exhaust fan. Just be aware of this when making your decision. It may not have any effect on you depending on your case.

Thanks Joseph, yes that's a good point, fortunately i'm on water so it won't effect me but take your point, especially with the maonster coolers around
. The DFI LANPARTY UT ICFX3200-T2R/G is similar, that and the non standard mounting of the nb block put mre off it when it 1st appeared. cheers ![]()

Oh, just to add to this, they started selling this board in the USA this week, I should have mine Friday. Plan to swap out my old board with this one Saturday night or Sunday sometime. Anyway, I'll try to remember a bit after that (Time permitting, I already know next week could be very busy for me) to post some first impressions.
