Major Hollywood studios accused of bribing Chinese officials? How can this be? Surely this is some kind of mistake.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has sent letters of inquiry to at least five movie studios in the past two months, including News Corp's 20th Century Fox, Disney, and DreamWorks Animation, a person familiar with the matter said. The inquiry reflects stepped-up scrutiny from the SEC and Justice Department into potential violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, a 1970s law that bars U.S. companies and individuals from paying bribes to officials of foreign governments.

Any article heading with the word "probe" in it is worth reading...

now they need to probe them for domestic bribing. Probe them hard

They must be upset the bribe money isn't going to US officials, and US election campaigns

Ah yes, let's investigate our companies for spreading western culture into China. God forbid we avert the great war some day.

These dirty motherfuckers are mad they didn't make any money off the deal.

Bribery is just part of the cost of doing business in China. It's hard to get anything done when you have to interact with the Chinese government unless you can grease a few palms. That goes for both foreign and Chinese business owners. That's just how it works there, and it isn't seen as some huge scandal like we see it in the US.

US law says you can't bribe people on other countries, but often that's the only way shit gets done. I think they do this so they can blackmail you later. Maybe the Political Action Committees are gearing up for some fund-raising.
