Never had one before, ideally I need it for some light gaming, some Photoshop work and all the other day to day tasks.
I live in the UK, so shipping from the US wouldn't be ideal but I could handle it. Can anyone suggest anything appropriate?
I have in the region of £2000 to spend ($3,600...
That motherboard you looked at was for the FX 51 which supports dual channel RAM, at the expense of needing registered DIMMs.
I'd recommend the MSI K8T Neo for your CPU :)
In English, ie not the version of English most Americans speak :p, router is said rooter.
Its our language. You stole it. We're taking it back.
So there :p
Im building a 1U server, and the 1U case only came with a 200W PSU.
This is the spec:
P4 2.8ghz
Intel mobo
1gb DDR
1x 80gb IDE
Will that be enough to power it?
Need a P4 mobo for server, needs onboard gfx etc, to fit a 1U case
Any ideas?
Rough price range £100 - 150
Not looking for anything fancy, just stable. This won't be overclocked.
3200+ will cost me £220 (retail) or £214 (oem)
3400+ will cost me £280 (oem)
Which should I choose?
Could the 3200+ feasibly be overclocked using the K8T Neo I've ordered?
Ordering one today, just need to know what people would advise me to get.
I want to do a bit of OC'ing, and I'll need the board to be real stable in any circumstances. Onboard sound is not needed as I have an Audigy2, neither is onboard video.
Any suggestions?
I've looked at the K8V...
There will be more 3 pin headers (what the CPU fan is plugged into at the moment) on the board, just look for them and plug the CPU fan into one of those.
Thats the only thing that may be a problem, some of the machines will be switched off by employees...
But alot of them won't be, so it should be alright.
Got another few to add this week :)
Works fine now
I *slightly* neglected to get off my ass and check see if the machine was on :D
Oh and at work it'll be fine, think I've got several domain admin accounts that I use :)
These are all P4 2ghz machines currently folding that stuff :)
Thanks for the reply CIWS
Is there any way I can make them fold purely the other kind of WUs?
First vid card was a 256k Cirrus Logic card :D
First one I got for gaming was an ATi card, was 16mb but I don't recall what it was called..
Current cards are a GF4 Ti4600 and an 9800 XT is on its way soon :)
Just looking through the logs here at work of the machines currently folding, and 4 of them are taking an inordinate amount of time to fold one of these Tinker things. Is 3 days (so far) too long for a 2ghz machine to be folding one for?
Admin privilages I have, BUT, its not a domain here its a workgroup I'm running, could this be causing it a problem?
1 local admin account for each machine with different names and passwords.
6 done for me, with 7th and 8th on the way shortly.
I think around 6 of the machines at work that were folding have been turned off by mistake, which shall be fixed in due course :D
