Hi SHeldron, thanks for the grats on the phone job. Could not have won without all the votes from you guys.
As for your fiberglassing work, i think the reason your post is light on replys is because the subject is so complex and dangerous. You should really get online or over to a library and...
Thanks everyone, I am still moving along on this project and actually have the front door hinged to the body now and the entire thing sanded smooth and to shape. I just have zero time to do the updates these last 2 weeks. I am going to try and get the project logs caught up this weekend.
Sanding sealer and laquer for the finish. I am not going to stain it, I think the natural color is the best looking especially on wood this old. Even though my camera wont capture it, there are some wonderful deep shades of purple in the grain.
I think what I will do is make the nose cone out of wood and make the blades out of polished aluminum. As for them being all the same, I am making a jig to ensure they are all the same size, shape and have the same amount of curvature.
It will function in a passive way, i want it to turn at a reasonable speed like a tubine at idle. Man that would suck if it just sat there static seems like a waste to build all that only to not have it move.
The tail of the turbine is roughed out now. The steep angle made this piece...
The bezel for this project has proven much easier than that of the Satan's deuce project. ( you would never guess looking at the bezel it was made from paper and cardboard molds) There are fewer angles and curves to worry about getting straight. The only tricky part is getting the inner curve of...
Thanks for the stickie! And thanks to Steve for putting the log on the front page a few days ago.
The stand and cradle are roughed out now. They are cast urethane from cardboard molds. The stand will be painted white to match the striping in the base and the cradle will either be...
That fan is gigantic! but my blueprint drawing has been scaled around 120mm so i cannot change it now.
Here is another smaller part of the base, i made this from the cutting scraps that were removed from the original 14" wide board.
Walnut has such pretty shades of deep purple and...
The bare chassis is pretty hollow in stock form and will be more so after I relieve it of some exteraneous metal.
I fail to see how individual racks could be easier than pulling the naked chassis out with all hardware attached in one motion. Besides all that the plan is to relocate all the...
Agreed. The face plate wont be inside the final piece. The height of the turbine, means that wether the pc is on the floor or a desk it is high enough to be grabbing cleaner air and not dust bunnies.
The hardware stays in the chassis period. At some point the hardware may need to be serviced...
Trying to replicate the scale of the shuttle with random parts is really inefficient, the purpose of the turbine body it so relocate some things away from the shuttle itself and dual 120mm fans one up front and one in back to lower internal temps. The turbine itself will be functionally moving...
This new Shuttle XPC based project was kindly sponsored by Modaholic.com. The bulk of the worklog will be featured on thier new site in the coming weeks.
Modaholic.com provided a brand new Athlon 64 Shuttle XPC and Athlon 64 Winchester CPU.
This Project began life in the pages of my...
Thanks so much for all the compliments.
I have already been asked to build a second and third Satan's Deuce, one for someone who wanted to give it to his Dad's who owns a matching car, and a third version to a guy from Norway. It looks like the Norway project will be built first, I have agreed...
I think they realized the same thing, while I have worked for free and even break-even just to add to my resume and experience it is always better to make a living at it! Your comments offended me because with your skills and imagination you will easily be swept aside if you turn away work that...
looking good man, I like the half grill in the rendering. I just went to a car show a few weeks ago with my grandfather and saw a nice gnx.
the window looks great too, hand cutting lettering is really tough to do I applaude your tenacity.
Yeah doing what I love and being paid for it is a real blow to my dignity.
Sometimes you must lower your head and do the work even if it is not the ideal project. It has kept my grandfather in buisness and happy for over 45 years. Exposure and advertising is part of the game, while you might...
In response to Qtips comments and those that followed..
Speaking one's mind is strength in character. Taste and opinion are subjective. I prefer to know someone's true feelings rather than have them color thier responses to be PC or to spare my feelings. I can respect somone for being honest...
thanks for the compliments guys.
Here is another, this is painted 120mm aluminum.
Most of the grill is handpainted although, I had to air brush the background to get the blue/purple fade to match the image provided by the customer.

The Giger is being published in a European Modding Magazine this month so I finished the last few things on it so it could be photographed. Below are the last images of the Giger I will be taking. I have added in the windows and replaced all the buttons, usb ports and finished off the front...
If you use spray cans you will notice that not all of them are created equal. The spray nozzle on the duplicolor products is superior to all others. The nozzle button is soft to the touch (if you use a spray can for more than a minute or 2 you will appreciate this, most are very stiff and will...
Humanity is destin to be enslaved by evil computers because we love them so much! I have been fascinated by Hal since my dad told me to watch 2001 as a child. I can see it now, the Hal powered smart home... hal shuts off the life support and while we die of suffocation we are saying "damn that...
I just made some letters like that for the duece project, this medallion in about the size of a silver dollar. Most dealerships sell the emblems and letter logos you could chop up. I have also seen letter sets made of plastic sold at home improvment stores in various sizes. Some craft stores...
The question you should be asking is not how many people would pay 400$ but how many painters would do it for 400$.
Most highly skilled motor cycle custom painters can charge 3000-50,000$ for the tank, frame and fenders and we are not talking about that much more surface area than a full tower...
when ever i see a mashie project, aside from the wow factor and master craftmanship of the case itself i always think to myself: If I had his hardware I would burn mine :)
here are some decent daytime shots.
The trees reflect pretty nicely in the clearcoat.
I know the door edge seam looks rather messy, but there is a black felt gasket that goes between the door and case body that covers that, I just have not put it on yet. The felt acts to keep light from...
I know the feeling man. I wish I had time to search out meaningful contacts at places like Corsair and AMD so I could get hardware donated for these projects, I hate to show them with no engine in them.
I just dont have time to try and dig up the people who might be able to authorize such a...
Moon eyes are cool, but I dont want any company logos on the case besides CI and my own.
A grill and a grill.
I abandoned the rods in favor of the more accurate look of slats. The slats are 1/8" thick and 1" wide. I had to cut and file each one to fit. I also added the bead edge around the...
thanks everyone for the kind words. I just finished the grill for it last night, I am finishing the case this weekend. The final images of this piece will be posted today and tomorrow. I decided to abandon using rods for the grill and instead made slats much like those found on the real cars...
I managed to apply the clear coat yesterday and added the feet to the case. This clear coat is some of the best money can buy and can be found on showcars all over the United States. I made the rear feet about 1/2" thicker than the front feet so the case would slope down like a deuce coupe that...
Heya Hitman, got your pm.
I think what we should do here is just summarize the steps you are familiar with from the guide and inject the part about the logo in the appropriate place in the steps.
First I am guessing you have not sanded/or painted the case yet so lets start from the begining...
thanks everyone, I am going to apply the clear coating tomorrow. It should be very juicy when done. Only a few things left to do after that and it will be time to give it away.
