    Eizo DuraVision FDH3601 - first 4096x2160 display?

I don't think anyone of us will be willing to pay 25000€ for this, but at least we are slowly moving towards higher resolution panels. http://www.eizo.com/na/products/duravision/fdh3601/index.html

AG Coating Paranoia - The Official Thread

I actually own a Macbook Air and although it does collect dust it's no big deal to clean. Fingerprints however are farily annoying, but they are equally annoying on both glass and AG coatings. All I can say is that I love this kind of anti-reflection coating on my Macbook Air and that I'd love...

AG Coating Paranoia - The Official Thread

I'm curious how long it will take until we will see the first displays with a reflective/glass surface with this anti-reflective coating applied on it. The Macbook Air seems to have something like this and I love it. Some of you might know this technique from photo cameras or glasses.

AG Coating Paranoia - The Official Thread

They ignore AG coating in their display ratings, so "very good" doesn't say anything about AG coating. It's sad, but they don't seem to want to change that. As long as there are idiots out there paying hundrets of dollars/euros for this crap and reviews ignore the issue completely, we won't see...

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

    1. PVA has been mainstream before IPS was even considered as a high end technology - EIZO used PVA in their best series instead of IPS because early IPS implementations sucked, they sucked way harder than PLS does atm 2. cPVA had huge backlight bleeding issues at release and the only advantage...

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

Sorry, but you don't seem to know what you're talking about. Early IPS panels were inferiour to PVA, today IPS is the dominating technology on the market. The first cPVA panels released by Samsung had the same backlight bleeding issues PLS has, but that didn't stop other manufacturers from...

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

I still hope the quality of this series will get better in the future. The only alternative is the Apple Cinema Display and the glossy Hazro series, but Hazro has some huge issues with QA so that's not really an alternative for me. The ACD is nice but it's been too glossy for my environment...

    Gorilla glass scratches easily

I also don't have any scratches on my iPhone 4 display and I didn't have any scratches on my old iPhone 3GS display - but be assured that you can easily scratch the glass with sand, when sand is in your pocket your phone will most definitely get scratched. You won't have to fear metal though...

Samsung SA850 on PLS 24" - Test and Review (what you have been waiting for)

Someone should make a photo of the SA850 against a U2711, all U2711s I owned had crappy blacks in dark rooms because of the IPS white glow. I think those who are posting that IPS black levels are better haven't seen any 27" IPS display in a dark room. It's true that some SA850s have backlight...

NEC LCD2490WUXi still the best thing since sliced bread?

You obviously don't have any clue what you're talking about.

NEC LCD2490WUXi still the best thing since sliced bread?

The only answer anyone can give you if he's completely honest is: yes, the NEC LCD2490WUXi is still the best. There's nothing out there on the consumer market that comes close to it. Save yourself the bother and don't even try to find a decent display, I'm on this travel for 2 years now and it's...

When will we see 3840*2160 monitors?

http://www.macrumors.com/2011/09/13/microsoft-also-preparing-for-desktoplaptop-retina-displays/ There you go. So high DPI displays are definitely the next thing to come.

When will we see 3840*2160 monitors?

It took Apple over a year (maybe even 2 years in case the iPad 3 will be released as late as next summer) to get from iPhone 4 retina displays to iPad 3 retina displays. They encountered a number of issues, otherwise they would have released the iPad 2 with a retina display. Apple won't release...

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

...except that IPS has the exact same glow issues. I have seen a lot of U2711s and all of them had the glow in the bottom left and bottom right corner, that's just the way it is, PLS is IPS without the aggressive AG coating, there is no difference in the white glow issue at all. Even the two...

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

It has been said several times both here and even by Samsung itself that PLS uses a semi-glare coating with no visible AG coating grain effect. That's the huge achievement Samsung made. Samsung brought common sense back into LCD business, we finally have some high end panels that don't rape 50%...

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

So it looks like that: PLS = IPS - AG coating I'd say that's a huge step into the right direction, although it's disappointing that Samsung didn't manage to fix or improve the IPS glow. I hope other manufacturers like EIZO will start using PLS in the following months to force both Samsung and...

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

Still no word about EU availability? The S27A850D is listed as "date unknown" for weeks. No signs about when the IPS dictatorship will finally come to an end.

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

That's what people call "new" - because, to be honest, all panels out there are "just" modified LCD panels. Some suck more and some suck less, and if PLS is as good as it looks, I'd call it revolutionary.

2 Monitors for Photoshop - IPS?

I hate my IPS display (U2711) in Photoshop. I'm just doing some for-fun projects at the moment, I wouldn't want to do any professional work on it! For me the AG coating really makes it unusable for professional graphics work, if you really want to work on a professional basis I wouldn't...

U2711 or 27" LED Cinema Display

My experience has been that Apple has a better QA than Dell. Although they might use the same panel, both of the ACDs I've seen had an awesome panel quality. I have yet to see a U2711 without inconsistent white or gray - and I have seen a lot of U2711s. Don't get me wrong I'm currently sitting...

U2711 or 27" LED Cinema Display

As an owner of a Dell U2711 and former user of the ACD 27" I have to recommend buying the ACD 27" if you can somehow get a DP connection. In direct comparison, the AG coating of the U2711 just rapes the image quality compared to the ACD.

They indeed are. But the glossy surface is something you really have to like. I don't mind it but a lot of people hate it.

    2 faulty Dell 2711s

The refurbs you receive from Dell are completely unusable. I got like 5-6 of them and every single one of them just sucked. At some point they just gave me a new one and it's been ok.

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

The U2711 has been available for more than 1000€ at release. It went down to 800€ and now 600€, so I wouldn't say we can say anything about the price yet.

Samsung SA850 on PLS - the first review has been published (preproduction unit)

Not too bad for a first review. No AG coating bothering is a go. I'm also pretty certain that the black levels won't be an issue, even modern TN panels have halfway decent black levels at the center of the screen. Backlight bleed and viewing angles are the last two bits missing for a "perfect"...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

You don't scale any graphics on today's displays. 30" with 2560x1600 have a DPI of 1xx or something. High res displays offer a higher resolution at the same size, meaning all graphics have to have a higher resolution.
  27. B

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

You guys do realize that not a single website or application is able to just "double the graphics" while remaining a decent image quality like they did on the iPhone? The whole internet will look like shit with double-size scaled graphics for years. I even doubt that we will ever see a 100%...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

Oh man... The white background isn't white, they used some color fades as a background for their sheets. The black background is indeed 100% black, but the pictures made by Oled are 90 degree rotated, the bottom left is actually the top left, it is possible that it is just a reflection of the...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

I think you cannot judge the actual panel quality by these photos, both because Samsung tries to make it look better than it might be and because the lightning and camera could screw everything up. So I would neither say the panel is good nor it's bad. But I would really like to hear some...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

The reason for the crappy black levels of today's IPS panels isn't the 1000:1 contrast. IPS has an issue called white glow. Older NEC IPS panels used the A-TW polarizer to greatly improve their black levels by getting rid of this white glow. If PLS uses a similar approach to the A-TW polarizer...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

Sorry but that's just wrong. What we are calling semi-glossy is nothing else than light anti-glare coating. The MacBook Air uses a different approach with neither AG coating nor glass, but PLS has just a lighter AG coating than LG IPS. And whether or not a display looks "pixely" isn't...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

With those lightning conditions even an AG raped display would show reflections. Well I guess there are people who prefer completely destroyed colors over some minor reflections, but I personally think the semi-glossy coating is the best solution out there at the moment. I would even love to see...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

GUYS it's freaking semi-glossy! No AG coating rape on this one! I'm so buying one of those. Still not sure whether I should go with the 850 or one of the 650s. I cannot even believe this is true, I didn't see a single display out there fitting my needs for almost 2 years now... and suddenly I...

    Samsung intros IPS competitor: PLS

The 2490WUXi1 is a beast of a monitor. The newer NEC displays however cannot impress me nearly as much as the 2490WUXi1 did. NEC uses the same crappy LG IPS panels as everyone else today and stopped using their A-TW polarizer, that makes me very sad. As an addition to a 2490WUXi1 the SA850...

As far as I know the Apple Cinema Display is edge lit. The 2 ACDs I have seen here didn't have any backlight bleed whatsoever, I took a look at them very precisely. So edge LEDs can definitely be done right, I wouldn't worry about that. Oh and I totally love the design of the SA850, looks...

The iPhone 4 display is way better than any OLED screen I have ever seen. I'm not trying to start a fanboy war - as soon as I see a decent OLED screen with my own eyes I will jump on the OLED fanbase right away. But at the moment it's just not the time for OLED yet, especially in the desktop...

Completely stuck, really need some user input on a 30"solution

I agree with you on that one. Especially Word, TeX, internet and programming are just awesome with the Apple Cinema Display. The U2711 is however quite as good as the ACD for gaming and movies I would say.
