Flashed the BIOS, updated without a problem. But I still have the random text during the boot up. I want to say that it is caused by the graphics card since there are some minor atrifacts on the screen but the graphics card has nothing to do with what characters are sent to the screen.

Well, I manged to get windows to install, and besides some random constant artifacting there have been no errors so far. I'm going to see if I can get windows working, run some tests and then maybe do a BIOS update/fix from windows.

Can't coil noise be silenced with some hot glue? If I remember correctly there had been a thread about fixing "electric noise" or something similar. You might want to google a bit about using hotglue or something to hold the peice that is making the noise in place, though since it's inside...
