As someone who's been following the price of this TV on Amazon for a while, I can say this isn't a very rare or special price. It's been at $300 mark at least several times over the course of the year.
There's a large thread about it here:

From http://9to5mac.files.wordpress.com/2014/02/tablet-battery-life.jpg, it shows 614 minutes of wifi browsing and 604 minutes of video. That's 10+ hours.
Very intensive games will probably be between 7-10 hours, but that's still long enough to consider "infinite" by my standards. In other...
It's a Retina mini, so 2048x1536.
That's 10+ hours of non stop heavy use, like watching a video over wifi or playing 3D games.
On a typical day I don't spend 10 hours on it, so it lasts a lot longer. For example, it's 1:28 AM and I haven't charged it since last morning, and it's at 77%...
Tried updating Nvidia drivers to the latest, and tried your inf. Still no luck with proper colors at 4k (this is with 39 firmware; I haven't tried the others today). >_< Lower resolutions are working.
Ok, you're definitely onto something with that.
I was able to get it to display the colors absolutely smoothly when I tried with resolutions of 1440x900 or lower in Windows.
However, I still can't get it to work properly at 3840x2160 at all.
I've tried the Accell active mDP->HDMI adapter, but...
Ok, I've gotten to the bottom of the issue.
The TL;DR: I'm very inclined to believe I have a faulty unit.
Here is a very standard HSL pattern image with smooth, uniform color transitions: http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/5143/1vs6.png
And here's how it looks on this SE39UY04:
I have...
Yeah, it's the same problem as alamone described.
Here's a .png:
Here's how it looks on my Seiki 39" with Sharpness 0, Noise Reduction "Off":

Here's that same .png on a normal 1080p monitor, for comparison...

I've tried both the latest firmware for 39" and 50", no...
Yep, that's me. :)
Thanks, I just found out how to access the service menu (MENU, 0, 0, 0, 0), and the version info is there. Next up I lowered the backlight brightness, so it's much easier to look from up close now. I've already set sharpness to 0 (made a big improvement), and turned noise...
They're easy to love from outside. They're very appealing. Then, you get one and realize owning one incurs so many problems and imperfections, that Sony's utilities software and drivers are such an ugly mess, that you have to tweak and configure so many things just to have a sane working laptop...
Unkle Vito,
What were the highest vertical refresh rates at various resolutions (like x480, x720, x800, x960, x1080, x1200, x1440, etc.) that you've seen CRTs run at?
Have you tried editing the .bat file? By default, it says:
RefreshRateMultitool.exe 6 10
Change that to:
RefreshRateMultitool.exe 5 1
And run the edited .bat file.
Hey, sure man, I'll try to help you. :)
Let me get this straight. So you've extracted both the .exe and .bat file in the same folder. Now, if you edit the .bat file (so that it says 5 and 1) and run it, it should do 5 columns and 1 row. Is that not working?
The .bat file should look like this...
In addition to the command-line prompt (cmd.exe) you can modify the "6 by 10 grid.bat" file using Notepad. Just change those two numbers inside, then run the bat file.
For 75 Hz testing (to make sure it's not 60 Hz) I would use 5 by 1 grid, and for 85 Hz I would use 17 by 1 grid.
If you're comfortable with changing the code and compiling, you can do this.
First disable vsync. To do that, change glfwSwapInterval(1) to glfwSwapInterval(0).
Then, you will probably get over 1000 FPS depending on your setup. You'll want to lower it, so add a sleep for 1/90th of a second...
By default, it runs with vsync on, so it will run at 120 FPS if your monitor is running at 120 Hz.
If you make the app run at 90 fps on a display running at 60 hz, you will definitely see a lot of image tearing, and there will be artifacts because of the FPS and refresh rate mismatch.
This is what I would do.
My entertainment needs are low. Netflix and occassional iTunes movies is enough for me. It's $8 a month.
Cable TV here is like $75 for some crappy standard package.
This doesn't work as well as I expected it to, because the laptop I use gets pretty warm under heavy load, and it's not comfortable to use its keyboard for 8 hours a day. So I end up using external keyboard just cuz of that.
13" MacBook Air is definitely the best machine for you. You'll quickly get used to less SSD space at the benefit of lightning responsiveness. You can get external USB 3 hdd for rarely accessed files.

Nice! Can you post a link to those please.
And the desk tops + legs too. Thanks.
I think I found the cable organizer baskets. Is it these? http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/30200253/
Well, screw waiting a month for capacitors to arrive. I took an old power supply and salvaged 3x 10V 2200uF capacitors (should be equivalent to the original 2x 10V 3300uF ones, since they're in parallel) from there, soldered them into the L246 power supply and voila! It turns on perfectly and...
