Couple Sued For $1M For Negative Yelp Review

The petsitter (Prestigious Pets in Dallas for those who want to know) is playing with fire on this one. Texas passed a Tort Reform law that makes it a lot easier for a defendant to get legal fees (and even damages) from the plaintiff if the plaintiff's lawsuit is deemed frivolous:

Man Shoots Laser At Ferry, Slapped With $100,000 Fine

From here: Whidbey man charged for pointing high-powered laser at ferry captains - HeraldNet.com So not just a "laser pointer". And the guy is also accused of a third incident last year involving a laser and threatening to throw acid on people. He sounds like a real winner.

The 2015 PDC Hypothetical Asteroid Impact Scenario

Using Purdue's Impact Earth Asteroid Strike Calculator (with a density of 2200 kg/m^3), you can calculate the damage that would occur. It looks like that the airburst would occur at about 5.8 km above the surface. Considering that at 10 km, the generated wind speed is listed at 358 mph, the...

    SimCity Offline Mode "Almost There"

The online requirement for single player turned me off initially and then all the other bugs and odd behaviors put this game on my permanent "do not buy" list. Letting me play offline still doesn't fix the other problems with the game. Luckily, I saw that a new city sim game called Citybound...

    MSI N760 TF 2GD5/OC - GTX 760 - Video Card Review @ [H]

Going back through the reviews here, with single cards it looks like the 580 is about 15% faster (and a better gameplay experience) than a 480, while a 670 was a little faster than a 580 with equal or better gameplay experience. However all of those were at higher resolutions than 1080p, which...

    Judge Fines Copyright Trolls $80k

Referring the Plaintiffs to the IRS Criminal Investigation Division is not something you see every day and this could be the real penalty the judge had in mind. The IRS CID is not a court of law, so the burden of proof is on the plaintiffs to show they've properly complied with the US Tax code...

GALAXY GeForce GTX 660 Ti GC 3GB Overclocking Review @ [H]

This Galaxy sure is tempting and I love all of the in-depth different parts being reviewed here. Still, I would love to see [H] review some of the other cards out there, especially a 1GB or 2GB card. I'm very curious if 1GB or 2GB cards can preform as well as this one.

DirectX 11 and lower power usage than my current (old as dirt) card. Plus Having both the DVI-D and HDMI inputs mean I can keep using my old (as dirt) monitor and still have a nice upgrade path for it down the road. Oh, and an ASUS card would match my ASUS motherboard quite nicely. :)

MSI Geforce 660 Ti Hawk 3GB Review

    Nvidia GTX 660 Ti Detailed

Even with AA and AF, the 660ti is preforming in the 7870 to 7950 range. The 7950 is selling for $349 - $399 before rebates and the 7870 is selling from $279 - $329, so if it hits the $300 price point that seems about right and would make for some good competition. But if the 660ti comes in...

How Long Before The Kickstarter Bubble Bursts?

The Kickstarter site describes itself as: In the FAQ it talks about pledging not investing, which I think is a legal fig leaf so no one tries to sue Kickstarter when some backed project fails to produce anything.

How Long Before The Kickstarter Bubble Bursts?

Penny Arcade has a good editorial on what to look for in a kickstarter project, as well as some of the pitfalls, here: The ugly side of Kickstarter And my feeling is, once you get outside of game development, the level of risk falls off dramatically. A $2,000 Kickstarter for a Graphic Design...

Xbox 360 on the Cowboys Stadium Video Wall

I'm pretty sure that those beams are part of the Jonas Brothers stage, so the view is unobstructed normally.
