Firefox plugin problem

Reinstalled firefox earlier along with all the plugins (java/shockwave/etc.) but firefox is acting as if they haven't been installed. When visiting websites that use any 3rd party plugin I don't get any visuals but sounds will work, games/movies that play in the browser have sound. Also firefox won't have the little bar saying I need a plugin for that website. I'm using latest versions of everything which was also used for previous install. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything related a few times and nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

thanks for the link, worked perfectly. was just a matter of moving some of the plugin files around manually. :)
