I had never played Animal Crossing before i got the DS version on tuesday, now i cant put it down. too bad my finals are next week!

im so addicted to this thing that i went and got the GC version too, only 20$ now, and my Nephew wants a DS and a copy of AC for himself! He spent much time berating me for having a game that looked to .... different. he played last night for hours, had to go on the charger.

anyways, out towns name is Burwick, so far i have only seen apple trees.

No, you don't pick your fruit. It's generated automatically. But other fruit that does naturally grow in your town is worth big bells.

I haven't even logged in yet today, but I will add your codes and If I can snag a shovel too, I will. :)

Well you could dig a moat, but it would be tough.

In this version there is only 1 house. So if you have 1 game, you and the lady will be living under the same roof.

You have to enter the persons code in, say i want this person to visit, and open the gate.

Right now i'm connected waiting for stevie to show up with fruit ;)

When I clicked on "i wanna go out... via WFC", despite the fact that you're in my friends list, I don't see any towns in the "distant towns" list :(

Is there a possibility that I have to get the name of your town right in my friends list, before I can visit it?

Since I can't seem to go out, you may have to visit my town (Toronto) instead :P

Had to buy a new DS today, pretty much just to check out how Animal Crossing works!
Was a pretty cool deal to get the Mario Kart Bundle... Hot lookin' Red DS :)

It's pretty funny that most of us here have >$1000 PCs with 7800's etc. and we're running around in a land with barely any polys and no texture filters shaking fruits off trees, and digging up yards. I've made pretty much 0 progress as well, as I just got the bug net and the fishing rod myself. My gates are still open, but my battery will be dead soon, so you'll all likely have to visit me after 11 ET :P

Yes. I think it's a max of 10 characters or something like that. 1000Corpse might work, for instance. For the sake of simplicity, I just named mine Toronto, though. The DS is charging now, so my gates will be open later tonight :P

Each town has its own local fruits. When u sell ur own fruits to ur own town, they go less. But when u bring in an imported fruit, they sell for more :D

But, when u get a shovel, u could plant an imported fruit and have ur own.

I was going to wait for the revision of the DS next summer/fall... but i couldn't. I couldn't pass up the deal, and now I'm addicted... damnit. Rich, your router keep going offline? I'm going to open my just before 2... gonna go for now. Party time anyone? :D

BTW, I found that NWFC works better for me behind my router's firewall, if i specify EVERYTHING (including the IP, the DNS, SSID, etc) in the DS' settings, and to put the DS into my router's static DHCP table. Less disconnection this way... I think.

Damn I remember renting AC for GC about a year ago. I can't imagine how addicting it must be now that you can visit each others towns. :eek: But I loved AC on the GC so when I get my DS I'm also going to pick this badboy up!!

Yeah I've been all over the place, met all sorts of new and interesting people so far... And have at least 3 of every type of fruit stored... now all I need is a damn shovel..

They are going to change the visual look of the DS in some way (think Gameboy Advanced -> Gameboy Advanced SP), so there's going to be some kind of Nintendo DS SP coming out, likely holiday season (November) next year.

I was going to hold off and get a DS then, but with this deal at Zellers, that I got Best Buy (Walmart probably works as well) to price match with the flyer, since Zellers sold out already... I couldn't hold on till next year. For $200CAD including tax, I've got a DS and 2 games, and the red DS looks pretty sharp as well. Maybe not as nice as the revision will look this time next year, but a great deal nonetheless. It will be the same hardware inside, just a different look anyway. And it won't be out till next year (late next year by the looks of it) so I would grab this and join us all in our crack-land :cool:

Captain Al, this is the "E rating" that appeals to more than just a small age demographic, as I've said in another thread. Typical Nintendo = kiddy looking = not kiddy at all. Damn I just can't get my work done... I'll be back around 3EST if anyone's still around then :p

4 people can be in a town at once. The Castlevania 2D graphics will blow your mind. Nintendogs - the environments aren't anything special (a bit barren), but the dogs look fantastic in 3D. The 3D on the DS isn't PSP level (i.e. there's no AA/AF at all), but to be honest, the DS looks MUCH better in motion than the screenshots make it out to be. Mario Kart looks better than the N64 version, for instance, but not quite as nice as the Gamecube. It's not as bad as you think, unless you really MUST have the latest visuals. Bottom line, though, there is a lot of fun to be had on this machine. I was easily able to look past the just-better-than-N64 look, simply because it's so much fun to play. Same as the GBA - the games looked SNES-level, but it was easy to see past that cause they were so much fun. New Mario & Luigi is just past GBA-level and still looks great (psuedo 2D/3D) as well. Depends on your tastes, I guess.

Honestly the first shipment probably sold out. When I went to pick up my preorder, they said they sold their 5 copies within 2 hours. My suggestion would be to call and ask. Usually around here, most walmart people are friendly, and will let you know when they are coming in. ;)

Opening my gate as I type.

You can close the clamshell when connected. Though after a few hours it seems to boot you and when you open it back up it tells you to reset, so make sure to save before closing it.

Someone cut my apple trees down as well. The axe should be banned from online play. Still, with all of the good things about this game, I may be able to stand it. No more "leaving my DS on for a couple of hours afk" now, though.

EDIT: Wildwhippy, when was it? I remember visiting your town and grabbing some oranges around 4:00 PST, but there were stumps by the town gate...so it was probably before that?

The game is ridiculous amounts of fun... actually, it would be a game that girlfriends would love to PLAY, not just watch. That's why I got a copy for my girlfriend for X-mas. These types of games are right up their alleys :)

this game is a blast, it's giving me a neck cramp from playing so much. right now I look like a sarcophagus: I have this mummy mask thing and my shirt is "gold plated armor" :D I really like how people keep moving in to your town, it adds a lot to the game. I read somewhere in the manual (yeah I read them) about being able to keep stuff in drawers or something but have yet to figure out how. Anybody have any xp with this?

You can get refrigerator, wardrobes, dressers, etc that will allow you to store up to 90 items. Just place them into your room and press A at the front of it. I got a refrigerator from a balloon in the sky and a SnowMan wardrobe from a snowman I built.

Does anybody else think that this game would have been better if you did all of your running around / interacting on the top screen using the buttons, but then had the inventory permanently open on the touch screen? I much prefer playing the game with the face buttons, but inventory management is far, far easier with the stylus. That's my only real complaint about the game.

Actually, I'm finding it easier to play the whole thing with the stylus! Less hand strain :)
Although I wish that the inventory screen was even EASIER to get to, it certainly streamlines the process from the Gamecube version to have it all done with the stylus. I run around and interact using the the stylus because I do find it easier as well. Nobody has visited my town yet? :(

I've got some work to do in 10 mins or so!

DAMNIT!!!! Hignaki, you're going to have to visit again and do whatever you did. I lost a LOT of playtime because I left my DS on (with the clamshell closed, and wifi on for Animal Crossing) and when I came back to play, it said the game has disconnected and you'll lose any saved progress :(

I wish there was an easier way to save your game without quitting... I will open my gates in an hour or two, I just hope that some people can visit my town and plant trees and talk to Alli and all that jazz again. Though I have to motivate myself to do everything I did over again :( Anyone going to be online later?

Has anybody figured out what governs whether or not a tree makes it past it's sapling stage? I planted a bunch of fruit trees, a couple grew, most didn't, and today the ones that were really small still had dissappeared :confused: I'm usually on later at night, in the 9 - 10 est range, when nobody else is :(

I am a little sad guys. I checked this game out at a friends because you guys seem so addicted to it... and I think it is as boring as an opera and ballet mixed together. I really wanted to like it, I did. I wanted to be able to share an online experience with fellow [H]ers, but I just don't see why it is you guys like this game so much.

Did I miss something or do something wrong? My friend couldn't believe I didn't like. Maybe i should spend more time with it or something? I don't know, I was just really dissapointed I didn't seem to catch the AC bug like everyone else.

The first time I saw AC on the GC I was like, that's retarded. Then from people talking about it I decided to pick it up, and at first I wasn't that impressed. But the more I play it the more I like it. I think that you have to like more sandbox-type titles to really enjoy animal crossing. It is very slow paced, but I find it nice and relaxing after work. I think a lot of the fun of the game is just the experience of it, watching the way the NPC's all have their own neurosis, the way your town changes and grows, stuff like that. Also if you are a manic collector of stuff in RPG's than AC will appeal to you because so much of the game is just getting, moving and selling stuff. I do feel weird saying that I like it, but there's just this inexplicable charm about it. Maybe try playing it again, but sit down with it for an hour or two, because it takes a bit to really get into it.

I understand about the charm thing. The graphics were very kiddish and remind me of CareBears for some reason. Not a bad thing, I think I am one of the few people who applauded Nintendo for making the last Zelda game childish/cartoonish looking. This isn't XBox Live (besides, hearing Rich whine at me about his shovel doesn't sound too appealing) - it's text chat only. Luckily the touch screen makes it less tedious to write to people, with a full-out touch keyboard. It's easier than text messaging on phones.

He wasn't really whining, I was just teasing him, as usual. ;)

The stylus makes typing really easy, we always chit chat to each other with no issues.

Damn DS, need to charge it so I'll have my gates open again at 1-ish (whenever it finishes). BTW how long does the DS last with the wifi on? I know it lasts around 10 hours without wifi (my little brother's lasts even more sometimes), but since I'm always playing wifi games only, mine seems to die much quicker than that. Not to the level of the PSP, mind you, but with wifi I get, I THINK, at most 5 hours or something. Anyone have insight?

Does the wireless chipset eat that much battery? It can't be. The thing lasts easily at minimum 8 hours without wifi. I've never timed it myself with wifi on, I just know it wasn't 8 hours.

5 rounds of MK:DS = between 1-1.5 hours, and 1.5hrs of Animal crossing... 3 hours? Can't be.

Emulation? Yes for both, and quite nicely at that - they both run great from what I'm told, but the SNES (http://www.pocketheaven.com/boards/viewforum.php?f=36) emu still needs some work to have perfect emulation.

Real NES/SNES ports? Well, the system is more than powerful enough for some SNES games, and it even has enough buttons this time around (in exactly the same layout... hmm) to play SNES games, so you can probably expect some official ports from Nintendo to hold us up until they reveal that the Revolution's ROM services can be sent wirelessly to the DS :D

Deadly Silence is RE1 remade, isn't it? So RE2 is probably on the way after that one :p

It is damn cool. Why DID you sell your DS? Currently, the DS is the best gaming system out - EASILY - with the most fun games. Hurry up and get one so that you can join us all in the party... The Mario Kart DS bundle + Animal Crossing is all you need for infinite fun, for a great price. And yes, almost any wireless router will work nicely with Nintendo Wifi. Now back to my Animal Crossing fishing tourney... :D

This is very true: Even most routers they say are "incompatible" work. For mine, I had to manually set the TX rate to 1. I know that's slow for wireless, but the DS needs it, and I don't have any other wireless devices on at the moment, so it's all good. Most all D-Link and Linksys routers have the TX setting as adjustable, and I find that the majority of the time, that's why the DS doesn't connect. It's all good.

Oh man, I didn't know about the shovel. kick-ass. does it do anything different or is it just shiny (which is reason enough to want it)? Can somebody hook me up with oranges tonight or tomorrow night? I have every other type of fruit growing :) My next project is to chop down all of the non-fruit trees to make room for more fruit! Slash and burn agriculture, baby.

How exactly do you build a snowman?

Find a ball of snow laying around.
Roll it around until it won't get any bigger, it will be about the size of your character.
Find another ball of snow.
Roll it around until it's about the same size as the last one.
Roll it over to the first ball, it'll hop on and become a snowman.

Becareful not to let the ball you're rolling around hit anything as it'll disappear.

Been playing AC solo for a couple weeks to get the hang of things and get my town going, but I think it's time to explore online a bit. Will add some codes in this thread as I back track.

Remember, you have to add eachother (both of you!) with your friend codes to see eachother. My Nook's is being remodeled today too... I may be on in a bit, if I can get a stead connection to AC's WFC with my DI-624 :p

Dude I saw you on last night but it wasn't letting me connect. I wonder if my router is shitty or something because I can only get into other people's towns like 60% of the time, but nobody ever seems to have trouble connecting to me. The router is on the "nintendo approved" list thing though.

Apparently there's a "hacker" on the loose... He can get into any town which has the gates open, friends list or not and has the power to corrupt your save data. No idea how much truth this holds, but be on the look out for someone named Ken coming into your town, and kick everyone if he arrives.

How the heck do you hack a cartridge game? :p

Yeah all the animals in my town are calling Hignaki a fashionista :D

The same way you can hack the Mario Kart to play all tracks online, including battle stages. Either hack the ROM file itself, or write a custom loader to modify the game contents.

There's already an AC:WW trainer floating around, for obtaining any items, bells, altering your town layout, etc...

It's me guys. I cast level 10 1337 haXorZ on myself and am hacking people's carts left and right. I sneak in there and shoryuken the save data.
