View Full Version : Seagate 7200.8 Drives are bad?
Just got a 250GB SATA 7200.8 yesterday to replace my 160GB SATA 7200.7 and to my amazement, this thing vibrates like a mother******....it vibrates so much that when I put my hands on the table I can feel the ripple effect. It's installed in my HDD cage in my Antec SLK3700AMB WITH 4 rubber washers on each side yet it still vibrates..and I can now hear a low humming noise 3ft away from the computer .. I thought the 7200.8s were an improvement over the noiseless 7200.7s... HOW WRONG I AM.

Understand this, and understand this now.
Turn off caps lock chief. It's in the Rules - DougLite
Every manufacturer of every tangible item on the planet has exceptions to the rule to their manufacturing process.
Everyone has a "defective" product once in a while.
If your drive is vibrating your entire table, I would say that it is defective. Get it replaced.

Got two of them in a Raid 0 config in my main gaming box for about 5 months, very quiet and no vibration, Is your case missing a leg? :)
I've got 3 7200.8's in various boxes, no noise, no vibration. If it's that bad RMA it.

Bottom line by now:
Hard drive vibration = RMA.

The 7200.8 is a downgrade in performance from the 7200.7, but not in quietness or reliability.
If I were you I would RMA that drive.
(yes I have a 7200.8 300GB SATA drive, I like it, I knew it was not the fastest thing out there when I purchased it)
