I'm looking at 2 diffrent drives:

Western Digital Caviar SE16 250GB SATA2 7200RPM 16MB 8.9MS Hard Drive

or...

Maxtor Maxline III 250GB SATA 7200RPM 16MB 9MS RoHS Hard Drive

Im looking at a SATA2 Drive with 16mb cache, I've always bought hdd's from Maxtor... do they have a SATA2 drive? if not, how well does Western Digital play.

I <3 maxtor, the sata/sata2 won't make much difference if at all. The drives can't transfer that fast anyways, so it's like letting the speedometer in your Geo go to 300 instead of 150.

I've owned both Maxtor and WD drives in the past and had no problems whatsoever with either brand.

I've only used IDE maxtor drives but I don't see why their Sata drives would be of any less quality.

I currently have a WD 74 raptor and I couldn't be any more happy.

For me, it's really a game of paper rock scissors when picking between WD and Maxtor :p

And add another contender to that list - Hitachi. I love my hitachi drive, it's so quiet :)
