Hi,

Anybody here has the Western Digital WD2500KS (250GB) drive. Is this the performance/silence king of the moment or which other drive do you suggest?

Also, when reading cumstomer reviews over here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRatingReview.asp?Item=N82E16822144701) I notice that alot of people mention that there WD25000KS failed very quickly, does that mean this drive is not very reliable compared to Hitashi or Maxtor?!

Also mention there is that it has no SATA II drivers and no XP diagnostic tool or something. Is this perhaps because its an OEM version. By the way, how do you read the temp from this mobo cause that's something I like to monitor.

Would it perhaps be safer to go for the WD2500JD or WD3200JD as it is perhaps more reliable and apparently doesn't make much noise and performs equally well?! What exactly are the benifits of SATA II in practice. Anybody could explain that. I am building a new PC so please give me as much advise as possible! Thanks!!

I first intended to get the Hitashi T7K250 but apparently it makes a "head reset noise" from time to time and I think it would get on my nerves so therefore I am looking for another drive. Maxtor DM10 looked good but apparently makes high pitched noise. What about this?! I really don't know which 200/250GB drive to take that performs well but also is silent enough for audio production. Thanks for all good advise!!

FUD, and here's some reasons why

#1: Not at all suprised at drives ordered from Newegg dying young. Newegg's bubble wrap and peanuts expose drives to unnecessary shock during shipping. Buy from ZZF if you want trouble free HDD operation

#2: Building on #1, the WD2500KS is backed by the same three year warranty as a JD series unit. It is no more or less reliable than nay other similar drive.

#3: People that are dissatisfied are more likely to vent than someone who is satisfied.

As for 3gb/sec, the WD2500KS doesn't need it. The 16MB buffer allows it to school competing drives...look at the WD4000KD, which is a category leader depsite being limited to 1.5gb/sec transfer.

Diagnositics tool is free for download on the WD site. I have the drive, definitely incredible performance for the price. And i've had it for a week. No problems out of the box.

Mine from ZZF is working flawlessly.
