Problem installing Linux.

When I tried to install PCQ Linux 2004 on my new Compaq V Series Laptop, the screen started flashing/blinking (as some TV Screens do due to low voltage) as soon as the setup began.
I stopped the installation thinking that it might affect my laptop.


Is this due to incompatibility of laptop's screen drivers?
Will installing the latest Linux release help my cause?

Please suggest.

there really is no good reason to use a year old version.

also, i suggest scrolling up a couple lines and posting in the proper forum.
