I am a computer tech and I have come across an issue that I have not been able to resolve. Here is the run down: Customer's laptop is a Dell Inspiron 4000 with Windows ME, fresh install. All drivers and Windows updates loaded except .NET Framework. When loading .NET from Windows Updates website it will just say that it failed to load. I have the actual exe file, so I loaded that. It says that it needs to update the Windows Installer before it can continue, I hit ok. It then gives the error, "Setup cannot access Windows Installer components. Setup cannot continue."

I have seen on other webistes that moving the msi.dll file from system32 to system and vice versa will fix this issue. Did not work for me.

Others said to install Windows installer 2.0 for WinME. I downloaded it and when I click the exe to install it says that the service is already installed.

Any ideas? I have serviced many WinME machines and never seen this issue before. Not installing .NET is not going to be sufficient, I would like to resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance.
