Not the best pics, my camera kinda sucks. I'll break out the video camera later and take some in-game video. PGR3 looks beautiful in HD.

PGR3. And here's a word to the wise, there are 3rd party accessories available for the X360 already, namely the HD component cable made by Pelican. If you care about digital audio, do not buy it... despite its $20 price tag (half what MS wants), everything I've found online says the optical port doesn't really work. And mine doesn't either. I got no where with Pelican's tech support.
Other than that, I absolutely love this console and this game. I had family over for Thanksgiving yesterday and everyone was floored by how good it looked and played in HD.

It could be CGI a game or the dashboard what we are intrested in is the setup of your gaming area not the game on screen.

They're screen captures (of in-game races), the in-game graphics are just as good, seriously, the only difference being there's HUD's on the screen. You need to experience it to believe it, it really is incredible.

Yea, the first thing I noticed was no jaggies in pgr.
The other major thing I noticed that I have seen in all the racing games I've played is you can see the buildings/road/foreground being drawn(things magically popping up) if you look close..................not in pgr 3, its just there

The first clue should've been a complete lack of HUD displays :p
Sorry, that's actual game play. In the pause menu there's a thing called "photo mode".....basically, when you select it, it clears the HUD from the screen, and you can move around the track in its entirety using first person shooter-style controls to get a perfect picture of the gameplay. It also includes a ton of photography effects of very high quality---focus, aperture, sepia, contrast, etc etc etc, and it's all in-game/real time and it looks AMAZING! Basically think about pausing all the action that's happening, getting out of the car and walking around in first person view mode and getting the perfect angle/distance/effect for a snapshot...it's great!
Erasmus354
11-26-2005, 10:07 PM
To the people doubting PGR3's graphics, dont doubt anymore. The game looks simply amazing. And to my knowledge the game only has about 10 seconds of CGI right at the beginning. Although I haven't been able to get past a single race yet so I wouldn't know if they have something later on... :o I find it odd that some people are tooting the same horn now about PGR3 even though the game is out.
I cant wait to get back at school, and to have Microsoft ship me my new 360. I went to the store today and bought PDZ and VGA HDAV cables to get ready for my 2005fpw. So I am all ready to completely blow my finals :D

Truthfully... it's not that special on a normal tv. Not much improvement over the old xbox. The difference is in the HDTV's... it's simply amazing. I can't explain it, you HAVE to see it... it looks THAT GOOD.

Actually it's a large improvement over the xbox...the xbox would probably beg for death just trying to do some of the blurring that PGR3 does alone, which still all looks amazing on an SDTV.

Wow, what did that run you?
I got it about a year ago when it was 'brand new'. Then it retailed @ $3800, down to $3450 with upcoming Super Bowl sales. Out the door, the TV, 5 year extended warranty, and stand (which was $900, but I got it for $350 since I wrote a check for the everything instead of payments, lol) came to just under $4800.
A lot of money, and believe me I'm not rich lol. I just happened across some unused HP Jornada 720s (handhelds) at work, they let me have and lets just say ... a few weeks later I was $40,000 richer for 8 hours work.. hahaha.
So I got the tv :) 360 next up!

And here is the 360 box...only accessories, PGR3 and PD:Z in there though. The system is back at home (just got back to school) waiting to be replaced.
http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/8929/3600037by.th.jpg (http://img454.imageshack.us/my.php?image=3600037by.jpg)
I have the VGA cable to use the 360 with my 2005fpw, I am going to order the adapter from Logitech for 5$ to connect the 360 to my speakers. Does anyone know if there is a switch type thing I can use to have both my computer and 360 connected to the same speakers? I dont really want to have to unplug one and plug in the other every time I want to play 360 or play a PC game.

Eh, my SDTV is a Sanyo 27"....I guess it's maybe some of the best features you can get on a tube SDTV...s-video. component, all the inputs you'd want, digital filtering, scan modulation, etc....so it looks pretty nice.
I had... um...
rf connector?
Nice setup lopoetve, but if I"m not mistaken, where's the other speaker? Unless you're using it as a sub (I can't really tell, it could be either).
I don't have a 360, but I'll see if I can get a pic of my friends setup, and I'll edit this post then
It's actually on the right channel for now... I don't have the center running, or the surrounds, due to space concerns... so I use it to fill in the sound (those RCA's are really weak) and make it more rounded. Occasionally I just pipe it all through there. I'm looking for a second one to make it a set, but it's an MTX AAL1540 Special Edition (Extra mid-range driver) so finding a single replacement is... hard. I'm still looking though.
It's mostly a sub, I've got the bass way up on that channel. 15" ftw.
hahaha, oh man, Frodo and Sam's look is too funny.
Conspicuous items I see in this pic (aside from Frodo getting jiggy with Sam)
1. Boxers next to the TV.
2. VHS tapes
3. Lid from a jar laying on the floor... HMMMM...

Perhaps because there are severe intended-shortages and they really wanted one? lol
Most people bought the premium, so it was easier to get the core.

^ I would rather wait anyway. Your still right though. I think having a core system was a good play to MS catering to two income brackets. Even still its a ripoff if you have the money. The Hard Drive and wireless controller will set you back 150 any way so the core system would be 50 dollars more with a HDD and wireless controller bought seprately. I was afraid that connecting the sound through a sound card would introduce some sort of lag in the sound processing though...I guess not. Maybe I should put a sound card on my christmas wish list :D

nope since its not like plugging the video in and getting lag when it has to be converted and sent to another card. its just a bridge i believe

Here is my setup. Everything looks kinda small but thats just an illusion as that is a 71" Samsung TV. BTW, the sound system is all M&K. If you don’t know M&K, check out their website at http://mksound.com (http://mksound.com/) My setup is the same setup used at Skywalker Ranch in their screening room, production offices, as well as in the “Star Wars” sound design studio (http://www.mksound.com/starwars_plus.htm (http://www.mksound.com/starwars_plus.htm)). Topping off the system are two Buttkicker (http://www.thebuttkicker.com/LFE_home.html)LFEs (transducers) mounted to the floorboards (from below), centered about 10 feet apart and slightly to the rear of the room. They make all the difference in the world… you actually feel the game instead of just hear it. In fact, the first time we cranked it up, it was so powerful it the DVD player couldn’t track the movie due to skipping. This was resolved by placing large isolators under the TV stand to minimize vibration.

So 480i DVD content.. thats not condisered HD video is it? I know some people say 480p is HD video, but some people disagree. I guess a DVD player that is using progressive output would do 480p and the TVs internal scaler would up convert 480p to 1080p.

Also the quality of the unit itself..
Also, for Multichannel audio such as SACD/DVD-A.. Maybe Xbox 360 can play multichannel audio? Well; where are the 5 RCA outputs for Mulichannel audio on the Xbox 360? There isn't any..
If you want a pure digital signal going to your pure digital display.. DVI or HDMI would be needed.. Not component video as the Xbox 360 has.. ?
Also, somebody might have Denon gear already and would like to match brands.
hmm DVI and HDMI outputs..

Great setup, the only thing that pisses me off about the 1080p sets is that none of them actually accept a 1080p signal because the companies are still deciding on a DRM system for it. It just upconversts lower resulutions to 1080p, so when the ps3 comes out with it's 1080p games and the next gen dvds with (mayby) 1080p movies then your tv can't play them. I dont have a nice setup to show off yet but I do have B&W DM604 S3 speakers coming in and I am also getting the HP MD5880n 58" DLP which is the only tv to support a 1080p input via HDMI. I'll have pics when I get it all together.

The left and right front speakers have built in toe-in of about 10-15 degrees (you can see it in the photos of the room).
From M&K's website: "One reason this left and right placement is NOT very critical is because of the inherent design of M&K speakers, the horizontal sweet spot is VERY LARGE. That is to say the acceptable listening area in front of the speakers where you will hear the critically best sound is very wide."
Following M&K's formula for speaker placement, they are correctly spaced for our room as well as the downward angle.
I think the TV sort of creates an illusion in the photos where everything else looks very small or close together. In reality, the front speakers are centered 32" apart.

so planet would you say DLP is better than plasma or LCD. I am about to get a new HDTV and have been torn between plasma and LCD. Probably doesn't matter what I go with.I have enjoyed our DLP but we have had some problems. For one, you just HAVE to have a UPS attached to it as if the power cuts out when the bulb is hot, it can seriously damage some of the mechanics such as the color wheel... which we had to have replaced on my last set due this very reason. This is probably true or any type of projection TV.
I honestly didn't even look at Plasma when we bought as there was such a premium on them... but I imagine they are getting cheaper every day... although after talking with several repairmen, Plasma screens apparently slowly lose their charge and there is no way to "recharge" them when they do.
I was sold on DLP over LCD after visiting Texas Instruments booth at CES a few years ago. LCD projection TVs project this very high intensity light through the LCDs which, over time, will lose contrast. DLPs reflect light and will not lose contrast.

Yes that is a KDF-E50A10. I love my lcd. Great picture, lots of inputs. VGA input also. HDMI, component, etc but no dvi. I have comcast hd and the picture is really nice. The resolution is 1280 someting by 720 and displays up to 1080i but the picture is downconverted to fit the native resolution. The only problem I notice is during fast moving scenes, there is slight ghosting. Other than that it's a great tv. I bought it at Fry's for $1999 on sale.

Eh, it really depends as to what electronics you look at. I don't really care for their soundsystems or other related audio equipment. They aren't horrible, but they aren't great either. As for TVs I would also be selective. I would probably consider them for an entry to mid level set, but there are many other great companies to look at for high level sets, especially considering that most companies price their sets similarly. I think the reason for this is the promoting of HDTV, as most tv networks are using this capability more, and as we have seen current and next-gen gaming seems to be taking this same path.
Does anyone have any experience with Dells line of large LCD or Plasma televisions?

Yea, I had always kinda thought the same thing about JVC....until I started doing some extensive HDTV research prior to my purchase. Turns out that JVC is one of the only companies out there that is able to mass produce LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) HDTV technology at a sub-5-figure price. LCoS is the same techonology that is used in the greatest HDTV money can buy, the Sony Qualia ($30,000 for last year's first gen model, but recently brought down to around $13,000).
These DILA displays have recieved some really high praise among the industry experts as being the "brightest" HDTV display you can get your hands on. After doing ALOT of side-by-side comparisons, I found that the bright, vivid, saturated colors of the JVC won me over.
Here (http://www.jvc.com/images/awards/19478_eprint.pdf) is a link to Home Theater Magazine's 2005 awards where they pick the JVC DILA display as the Best Rear Projection HDTV. :)

Burn-in, discharge, maintenence is better? :p LCD ftw. Plasma still has some serious shortcomings to deal with. For gaming, LCD will blow it away, given the problems it has. And the longevity (or lack thereof) of them.

Actually, Plasma burn in is only temp (if it really ever happens at all), there is no maintenence, and they last 20-30 years before the brightness gets to as low as an LCD.

If it happens at all? O_o It happens, and it's often NOT temporary at all.
Burn-in is still an issue, even with the pixel orbiter and other solutions, and they start fading from the first time you start them up. Maint -> I mean the problems with repairing the screens as they discharge or burn in, since the technology that makes them run literally does run out as they go. I don't know where you're getting 30 years, because the standard for a plasma screen is 30,000 hours, which ISN'T 30 years, unless you're not watching that much tv. Not to mention that you can't recharge the screen, and you CAN replace the backlight on an LCD, and the backlight goes at full brightness till the day it dies. (or close to).
http://www.audioholics.com/techtips/specsformats/displays_LCD_DLP_plasma8.html
Update that table there, and LCD has advanced, while plasma has not significantly changed. And note that while theoretical contrast on the plasma is high, in reality (with diffuse or overhead lighting) it's much lower than that.

Man you are asking to be flamed. That is why I didn't state one technology was better than another and I said it is up to the user to pick what they think is the best. I have been researching for 3 months and visiting avsforum.com ALOT. The new plasmas last 60,000 hours BTW. Also, plasmas are getting VERY good at burn-in prevention. As long as you don't leave a static image on the screen for more than 48 hours, your good. But LCD's do have better whites. Of course LCD's blacks SUCK compared to plasmas. In the end, plasmas IMO, have better PQ and better response times so I am always going to pick the plasma. When LCD's can do 3000:1 contrast then I will pick LCD. I need my blacks. Try watching Sin City in the dark on an LCD. EWWWWW

Hardly asking to be flamed, just had to work with way too many plasma screens to let people buy them without doing research. Yes, they're getting longer, and have better prevention, but they STILL fade well before that 60,000 hour time, whereas a LCD remains at full brightness till the backlight burns out, and they (plasmas) still DO burn-in. Not to mention that the advertized contrast is actually impossible to meet unless you're in a dark room, due to the veneer type and design used on plasma screens (unlike LCD's, which actually meet their contrast ratio at ambient lighting). Yes, sin city in the dark on a plasma would rock, and blow away every LCD out there (I'm not afraid to admit that plasma does some things very well). But in a well-lit room, it would look clearer on the LCD (personally, I'd take LCOS or DLP over either tech, if I had the choice). LCD response time is also catching up with Plasma, given a little more time and more tech like D-ILA and the like, I expect to see LCD surpass Plasma for most applications.
I still strongly feel that Plasma is a stop-gap until large LCD screens become affordable and available.

I bought a sharp aquos 37" this September and I really love it. It has a load of features and little touches that make me confident I bought a high quality porduct. I went to Circuit City and played with the options on the top couple of LCDs in the 37" range (Sony, Panasonic and Sharp IMO). One thing I really like about this TV is that it has a light sensor that will detect the ambient light in the room and adjust the backlight for easiest viewing. Also it has 2 HD-inputs, 1 RCA input, 1 HDMI, and 1 DVI. Only complaint so far is that the DVI input won't display my desktop but I suspect my outdated video card (radeon 9600pro). I have a wallmount kit coming in the mail and I cannot wait!

How do you like your Bravia and how well does it do with SD content?
I won't really know until Saturday once I get my Digital cable and HD programming. Also I should get my 360 some time soon saturday or monday.
I saw the HD on the TV at the store and it was stunning. I can't wait till Saturday. oNly thing is that it's very exspensive. Going price is 3500$. I'll give more deatial come monday when I get time to screw around with it.
Only real draw back with it is the regular cable looks bad becasue the TV res is so high and really shwos the imperfection of the normal cable, and DVD only run in 420p I think so the pic isn't as good as 720 or 1080i. But once the cable companies and DVD can get higher rez and contrast it will be even Better. This isn't just for mine but I think All LCD HDTV have this.

I tell ya what.. I happened across some money a year back that paid for this thing... so consider me lucky. The TV was $3500 a year ago, with the warranty, and the stand the total bill out the door was just under $4800  But a good investment, as I'll have this tv for years to come. And ... since its DLP I can just replace the lamp every 4-5 years and get showroom picture quality back :)

Go buy the thing I liked above. It's like night and day for DVD's. IF you have a DVI connector, that is.
The difference between my old sony player and that is just... amazing. Darks are 1000x more detailed, you can SEE things where you couldn't before. The difference is all in the small details, and in the color, but it brings the movie to LIFE. And the sound quality out of that player is just... OMG drool. Small details, small things, just the extra detail is amazing.

Actually, it's a best buy brand. Sometimes it's LG, sometimes it's something else. You have no idea what you get when you buy an Insignia.
EDIT: sometimes they're great deals too.

Trust me, it's worth it. I questioned spending $200 on a DVD player, my last one cost me $40... But I did, and I love it!

I just upgraded my aging up-rez Samsung DVD player for the new Samsung DVD-HD950. Amazon has it for $179.15 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009WNA0Q/102-7308498-0895312?%5Fencoding=UTF8&v=glance&n=172282
Ordered it Monday, got it Tuesday... comes with both HDMI and HDMI-to-DVI cables. The up-rez'ing is noticably better than my older model (which has become VERY important on such a large model TV).
