Heh, forgot to remove the remnants of the chinese takeout (hell, I have been living off the stuff for the past week... been in a moo-shu mood).
The TV was $5500 MSRP when I bought it, got it for $3200 or so plus some change at cost back when I worked for CC, it was out top of the line set at the time.

The El Camino Costco in South San Francisco received some.
There are more on the way to other Costcos in the US.
You just have to call and they will check the inventory and tell you which werehouse will be receiving 360s. Some are receiving 40 units. Lucky ones will receive about 160 units.

Info:
65" Samsung HDTV
From the top of the stack:
Xbox 360 Core w. HDD and wireless networking (I went with wired controllers because I don't want to screw around with batteries all the time)
upscaling DVD player connected via DVI to the HDTV
Amp for my ported subwoofer box / endtable (actually it's an old receiver, but it puts out 250w @ 4 ohms)
6.1 receiver that runs the show

You are absolutely correct. Well, there are some $13,000 Plasmas out there that compare nicely... but I spent over 11 months researching the technology behind LCD, Plasma and DLP. I also disected each company, their quality, their ups and their downs.
I knew what TV I wanted when I walked into the store. The sales guy, was like, "Oh this one ? ya this one sells by word of mouth." I wrote a check 5 minutes later.

It actually depends on what type of HDTV you get. My Opinion:
LCD = Sony, Sharp
Plasma = Panasonic, Pioneer
DLP = Samsung
RPTV = Hitachi

It depends. I have a CRT RPTV and it is awesome for games, movies, and TV. Personally, I still haven't seen a DLP set in person that can compare to the image quality of a good CRT RP or FP setup. For watching TV, especially channels than aren't in native HD and need to be upconverted to the sets native res, CRT blows everything else out of the water. Of course, they are a lot bigger, heavier, and bulkier... but that is a price I am willing to pay.
Any yes, Sammy DLPs are great bang for the buck, but nowhere near the best HD sets bar none of the market. Compare a Sony Qualia, top of the line Hitachi CRT RPTV set, Mitsubishi Diamond Plus, Pioneer Elite (RP CRT or Plasma), HP 1080p DLP, or Runco 9" FP CRT setup and they will kill the Sammy, of course, you will pay a lot more for each of those...
DLP is well rounded, light, and inexpensive, but it isn't the be all end all for image quality.

Hello all. I posted in the wrong section earlier so here is my Xbox 360 with my spiffy new Dell 2005FPW hooked up to my Xbox 360 via the Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable.
I have a TOSLINK cable hooked up to the cable's optical port going to the SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Platinum optical port on my PC to get 96Khz
uncompressed Dolby Digital 5.1 sound on my Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speakers. I have played PGR3, PDZ, Condemned, demos of Kameo
and NFS: Most Wanted on the 2005FPW and they all look absolutely amazing.
Even the dashboard and HD trailers of Mission Impossible 3 and Aeon Flux (available from the Xbox Live Marketplace) look spectacular.
They all sound freakin amazing too.

I've got an SVS PB12-ISD and that thing is crazy. I have to turn it way down so my neighbors don't kill me. When I finally move in to a house I'll get new speakers and probably get a new receiver and use these for the computer.

It's fine standing vertically. Only a risk if you move it while it is. Just as much risk having it standing vertically next to a bookshelf/television/av equipment as it is to have it flat in the middle of a desk :D

I really should pick up a set of ascends for my pc as I have always wanted a pair but can't have them on display in my house as I can't truthfully sell them. However I have a SVS PC-Ultra and I love it too much to not have it in my theater. The 12-ISD is great, so much so I actually recommended it to a customer because I knew I couldn't sell him anything for near that price that would sound half as good as the SVS.

They extend a bit lower and are supposed to be a decent improvement over the old models (old as in less than 1 month :p ). I'd definitely recommend them, especially for the price. The few times I've tried to test my system at near reference levels, I've been blown away at how well they sound.

Maybe I will pick up a pair for the PC or for 2 channel listening in the back room. Can't have them in any of the places where I could really make money from selling a set of speakers. Tis a shame but that is why those speakers are such a good deal is because there are no dealers in the middle.

I've heard good things about the SVS speakers too, but they are a step down from ascends as they're smaller and cheaper. We'll see what happens when they come out with the speakers to match the plus and ultra subs ;)

They supposedly will have a Mid and Tower speaker soon in packages, who knows when though. This (http://www.svsound.com/products-spks.cfm) shows tentative ballpark dates. I'll definitely be on the lookout for their tower speakers. I'd love to have something that matches well with an ultra/2. The sad part is, I sort of want to move to a different apartment or a house, with the driving reason being a better HT set up and more freedom in terms of volume. Plus if I get anything bigger than this ISD I'll probably break my back. Carrying that thing up 2 flights of stairs with a friend was one hell of a work out (as was the plasma), and the ultra/2 weighs over twice as much as this one does! It was worth it though. I love the initial reaction people get when they see the sub. It's bigger than my end table :p
I forgot to ask this earlier, how are you liking the 4806? I was seriously considering getting it until I realized I would probably be going the seperates route when I finally get some more room, so I cheaped out and went with an older receiver. Thats why I have gone with the Cylinders both times, The 20-39PCi was a great introduction into what real subwoofers can sound like and now the PC-Ultra is just a bad ass unit. I was installing a set of Anthem Statement components in a customers theater and even though he had dual Earthquake subs (don't remember model but they were the 15's with a 15" Passive radiator) and I still pre-ferred the sound of my PC-Ultra.

I love it truthfully, with the audessy EQ it can really help smooth out a rooms sound and has plenty of power. It powers my Kef's like nothing and has alot of feature, the new firmware that is going to be released will even add Faroudja processing/scaling over the HDMI outputs. Hell I even replaced a set of ADA seperates in a customers house and it sounded better than the ADA peices. And that was pushing a full setup of C.A.T. speakers which are far from effecient. I don't see myself upgrading anytime soon unless I am forced to buy say a full Anthem Statement setup to get a dealership with them.

It's not a huge difference as the source material is still 480i, but it does add nice sharpness and clarity to the picture. It especially helps because of the large screen size.

thats what else i wanted to know.....how sharp HD was on that RCA, because all the stores show dish network "HD" broadcasts but if you go into the menu of a samsung tv it says the sorce its receiving is 480i.....so i could never really judge how good HD looked on the sets without it recieving hd signal

It actually works like this:
http://www.hypothermia.us/office/lcdtv_setup5.jpg
For each workstation (x3) there is a:
PSP
PS2
Xbox
Xbox 360
GameCube
DS
Two workstations are 3GHz boxes, one NVIDIA powered, one ATi powered. The two workstations share the LCD HDTV but run games on the workstations monitors as well. While one person is using the HDTV the other can use his monitor or the big screen for HD gaming.
My workstation has two boxes, one Intel powered, one AMD powered and one each of the above mentioned consoles except my PSP is ceramic white and my 360 and GameCube are skinned. We have a file server / music box on the network as well.
I am eventually going to get a black SFF to replace the aluminum colored one so that the all the workstations match.

I have my XBox 360 hooked up to a Dell 2600 LCD TV (which is great by the way)...via a VGA lead and have the res set to the native of the panel (1280x768). Yet I still see jaggies...is this normal? I am sure something isnt right...I also get them over component?? Any help would be much appreciated...I'd post some screens of my setup but I dont have a digicam at the moment...

I think the demo of PGR and the retail version are different in regards to resolution at which it's played. I may be wrong.
Yeah, gotta lock up the goodies or else the little terror will destroy everyting. I love my son to death though.Yeah, I got the child-latch on the games. I used to keep all my systems in that cabinet to the right, but when I got the 360, I had to get a second smaller cabinet just for that, and a new TV stand to put them in, and I've yelled at him enough where he doesn't touch the systems anymore. He's two now, so I let him play games when he asks.

Here is my setup. Everything looks kinda small but thats just an illusion as that is a 71" Samsung TV. BTW, the sound system is all M&K. If you don’t know M&K, check out their website at http://mksound.com (http://mksound.com/) My setup is the same setup used at Skywalker Ranch in their screening room, production offices, as well as in the “Star Wars” sound design studio (http://www.mksound.com/starwars_plus.htm (http://www.mksound.com/starwars_plus.htm)). Topping off the system are two Buttkicker (http://www.thebuttkicker.com/LFE_home.html)LFEs (transducers) mounted to the floorboards (from below), centered about 10 feet apart and slightly to the rear of the room. They make all the difference in the world… you actually feel the game instead of just hear it. In fact, the first time we cranked it up, it was so powerful it the DVD player couldn’t track the movie due to skipping. This was resolved by placing large isolators under the TV stand to minimize vibration.
Amazing setup. The only thing I wonder, as i see this so often, is why people place the L and R speakers so close together. Dolby suggest they should be 22-30 degrees off centre, and some suggest that the distance between the speakers should be the same as from the speaker to the listener.

Not sure what Steve did but my screen only cost around 45 bucks to build.
Basically you just stretch blackout cloth over a frame of 1x3's. Blackout cloth is what is used to line curtains to keep the light out. Works like a charm.

We did three different versions of the same thing:
$45 in paint and materials.
$45 in paint and materials + $25 borders / frame

UGH! I really hate when something like Goo is referred to as a professional product. It is designed and geared for the DIY market. Don't get me wrong its a good product for what it is; but it is not what professional installers will use, unless forced to as in a budget system.

The fact that its called a professional system. It is a retail sold system but far from professional. It will give decent results but it is not equivelant to a true screen, I have had a black-out cloth screen, parkland plastic and now have a stewart screen. I have seen a Gooscreen and its the best of the budget options but still doesn't provide the performance of a true projection screen.

Umm, the "price" of a 100" - 160" true projection screen? We are talking about a budget here.
And, as mentioned in the other thread we have close up pictures of a Stewart Firehawk screen compared to regular ol' paint on the wall, with a good projector, it is hard to tell the difference.
And with GooSystems, that is just the NAME "professional series" of their product.

Works great for me! I've had it for a few months now. For a while I was pissed off because the convergence was messed up on the right side. But I got into the service menu, and used all 195 points of convergence for each color mode....it took hours, but the result is stunning! It looks as good as any other TV I've seen-including plasmas, DLP's, etc. It just takes some time and care!

WTF are people only reading half of my posts? I said it was the best option of the budget systems. However I have seen a GooSystems screen in person and there are differences in the quality between it and a true screen. And its not buyers remorse talking either as I picked up my 114" Stewart StudioTek 130 screen for a whopping $100.
Though I will admit I didn't realize that GooSystems had named a version of thier product "professional series" so I will concede my mistake on that point.

I know. I'll probably end up using my tuition reimbursement from this semester to get a really nice HDTV in June, since I just dropped money on the couch and loveseat. I can handle this tv until then siince it has a pretty good picture.
Plus I'll probably have to get a new tv stand/entertainment deal. The one in the picture works well for a tv of that size, but anything larger and its too high off the ground IMO. I'm not complaining though, since it was free.

But Hexic isn't listed, as it comes on the HDD when you buy it.
I have another HDD that I haven't touched, so I may look into that program that lets you hook it up to your computer and swap/add files to the Xbox360 HDD.
And I don't blame her....I was playing it and forgot to pick her up for her birthday dinner, and I had my phone off so I wouldn't be distracted from playing it so she was also stuck at the library cause her folks were out for the night.

The thing is....I actually prefer to have the separate remotes for each component over having 1 remote for all of them....I dunno why....

Well, here's mine. I also have a gamecube running which is sitting just off camera (and is currently playing Baten Kaitos, for those of you wondering what's on screen)
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b16/Blademrk/DSC00199.jpg
I'm going to have to mod the stand shortly as it's none too stable since I removed the card from the back of the unit to allow all the cables (and heat from the 360) through. Who would've thought that 2mm thick card would have made so much difference?
What I intend to do is place the HiFi stand that I use to house my Dreamcast, N64 and AtariST next to it and bolt the sides together and maybe brace the back a bit better.

It's just a generic 32" Sony CRT, I can't remember the exact model number (I'll check when I get home fom work), but there are better TV's out there. It's not even 60mhz compatible, although I can get some games to work great in 60mhz (like DOA4 on the 360 and SC on the Dreamcast) but most of the 60mhz compatible games I've tried on the PS2 just go black and white.
I paid around £500 for it about 3 years ago.
I need to upgrade to a HD set :(
edit:
Googled Sony Tv and found the model number: KV-32S35. Looks like it's been discontinued though.

That's funny, because my ~15-20 year old Sony Trinitron IS progressive scan and direct-from-computer 60mhz compatible. I found it used, but I"m guessing that back in the day it fetched quite the penny. :D

Heh, thanks! As for the response time; I was half-expecting to see some blur after playing on a CRT for a while, but, to my amazement (and happiness), it is no different from the CRT RPTV....the response time is great, it looks as good as any TV that you "don't have to worry about response rate" on. ;)
I am using the MS component cables, and it looks beautiful. I am very happy with this TV.
Also, DVD's on my 720p upscaling DVD player look absolutely GORGEOUS on this TV. It uses HDMI, and it just makes DVD's look great! I can't wait to get an actual HD-DVD player, so it'll look even better.
Anyone who has an HD monitor and an Xbox 360 should download the "Cars" trailer, it looks STUNNING in HD!

Ok, I didtched the 52" RPTV and bought a 32" LCD. It's the "ILO" brand, which some people would stick their noses up at, but ever since I bought a computer monitor from "ILO" a few years back, I love the brand! Anyways, here's my updated setup:

as a side note:
and let me say, I am impressed, although, one thing that boggles my mind, the MS reps keep saying how the graphical power of the 360 hasn't even been tapped yet, yet, i already do notice a slight amount of choppyness on playback's, so it seems to me they actually do not have all that much untapped power, unless it is in a specific part like shaders or something graphical that will not affect framerates.....mostly they are fine, but like i said, during playback at 720p or 1080i there are small moments of obvious framerate lagg
on topic:
will post pics later tonight, but i am playing it on a 46" widescreen Toshiba 46H84 HDTV via the Component cables with a Sony 5.1 Surround unit hooked up via Toslink Optical, and I am very impressed, I am a huge fan of racing games, matter of fact, i got Oblivion, Tomb Raider Legends, and Condemned with it along with PGR3, and now all I have is PGR3 and MotoGP 06, very impressed indeed, been waiting a long time to play games in stunning detail in HD with digital surround, traded my PC for the 360 with those four games, two wireless controllers, a play-n-charge kit with battery, and the Pelican forced air vertical stand +$300 cash, the PC power was being wasted, now me and the wife and kids can enjoy this thing together on the big screen in the evenings, great times!

61" Samsung DLP HDTV :)
Awesome TV. I have always loved the crispness of the Samsung DLPs. I'm a little afraid of getting a DLP though because someone will show me the rainbow thing and I'll never be able to get it out of my head! Those TVs are really nice though.
Also, I mean this in the nicest possible way, but the rest of your house seems pretty standard and then you have this huge 61" cutting edge TV and Xbox360. I can see where you spend most of your time and money :)

Yeah, is the Sanyo Z4, 1280x720 native. So far, I'm extremely happy with it. It doesn't like lots of ambient light, but as long as their isn't light shining on the screen directly, it works pretty damn good. With all the lights off, it looks like a plasma.
The Z5 just came out, and it's a good upgrade from the Z4. The Panasonic AX100U is also new, and is a bit brighter than the Z5, but does cost a couple hundred more.
Rest of the stuff, nothing fancy, I went more for bang-for-the-buck than awesome.
Receiver - Denon 3803. Got it for half price about 2 years ago.
Speakers - Fluance SX-HTB+ and PartsExpress 12" Dayton Sub. Highly recommended budget speakers and sub.
Surprisingly, the entire setup costs about the same as a decent 50"+ HDTV. People are shocked after they see it and I tell them how much it really costs. Most guesses are at least 5k-10k, where in reality it's in the 2k-3k range these days.
Nice JBark, my setup suddenly looks crappy hehehe :).
Ha, sorry about that. :)
I must confess, I actually spend more time upstairs using my 37" LCD than a spend downstairs with the projector. Just seems like overkill to turn everything on just to watch a TV show.
