I have been posting in these forums on wanting to upgrade my rig to 2 gig. Thanks to Eclipse for shedding some light on 2t memory timing, I went to Fry's today and bought some cheap memory.
Anyway, I bought 2 sticks of Patriot PSD512333. These sticks are rated 2.5 @ 333. So for $39 a piece plus a $20 rebate each, I thought what the hell I'll try it. Currently I have a pair of Corsair CMX512 PC3200C2 (rated 2,3,3,6 @ 400 mhz). So after rebate, I picked up another gig for $46 (w tax). This is a one day only at Frys. Who knows what they will have after Thanksgiving.
Took my old sticks out and tried these out to see what these Patriots will do. Set voltage @ 2.8, 2,3,3,6. 200 memtest ok, 210 memtest ok, 215 memtest ok. Got them up to DDR 433 stable. This is the same place where my Corsairs are stable. Seems like these chips are identical to my Corsair CMX512s. I think my A64 or my mobo does not like going past 263.
So all is said and done, $46 later I have 2 gig of ram running @ 200 2,3,3,6 (2t). You might be able to pick some of this ram on the cheap too.
To me this is good for now. I will upgrade my ram again when I buy a new mobo when AMD has the new sockets out.
My rig:
Epox NF4 Ultra (Non SLI)
AMD 64 Winchester 3200 @ 2400 240x10
2x512 Corsair CMX512C2
2x512 Patriot PSD512333 (all mem running at 200 mhz, 2,3,3,6,2t)
ATI X800XL 440 Core, 560 Mem
Old Scores with just Corsair running 2x512 2,3,3,6 @ 200 mhz 1t
3DMark05 5,551
3DMark03 11,654
Pi 1M 36 sec
New Scores running Patriot and Corsair 4x512 2,3,3,10 200mhz 2t
(will update soon)
3DMark05
3DMark03
Pi 1M
For those of you that scoff and chase the latest and greatest, this may not be a big deal to you. For me, I always like to get the most bang for the buck and moderately overclock. ;)
