512mb stick of pc3200 ballistix, 5b D chips. i'll try to get some quick results up by 12 ;)

Hurry up!! :D

are those the same 5b D chips that go on their value, just hand picked?

(cf)Eclipse
11-18-2005, 10:48 AM
yup, they are ;)
it's also the same stuff that goes into the 1gb pc4000 ballistix

here's some moderately tweaked, moderately stable 2-2-2 results. it scales like 3-4mhz per .1v, pretty typical of micron.

http://eclipseoc.com/phpwcms_filestorage/1/1_89.png

gonna work on 2.5-2-2 now

edit.. something weird. i'm memtest stable at 250mhz with 2.5-2-2, but i can't even get into windows over 230mhz. i would dig deeper into this right now, but i have no time :(

sweet speeds at 2-2-2... too bad it's only a 512mb stick.

Just got two of these sticks. I have no idea what I'm supposed to get for latency timings but here they are for me with two sticks

http://img506.imageshack.us/img506/5980/untitled3fr.th.png (http://img506.imageshack.us/my.php?image=untitled3fr.png)

I have no idea what I'm doing and these timing seem horrible. Was wondering what I'm doing wrong. My setup by the way is an nforce4 ultra (modded to SLI), athlon 64 3800+, obviously 2x512mb sticks of crucial ballistix memory.

::edit:: nevermind I found a guide to the memory divider and how to overlock with ahtlon 64's

how does yours clock intel?
jaded.. .8TD like mine i would assume?

also, i'm home for thanksgiving break, won't be able to really do much of anything.. unless you count oc'ing on an asus a7n8x limited to 230mhz something ;)

jaded25

finally got the same speeds as yours eclipse just had to play around with the setttings. I don't know what mine clocks intel because I haven't tried it yet.

(cf)Eclipse
11-19-2005, 02:53 PM
i was asking him how his clocks.. not how it clocks on an intel (or whatever you meant by the second part of your post :p)

also.. my asus a7n8x hates this ballistix... with a passion. needs 2.8v to run stable, but i can make it to the mobo limit (225mhz  ) with 2.5-2-2.. but only in the outermost memory slot. i need to get back to school.. hahaha

How does it clock? Well, running at 230FSB, but I have to run at loose goose timings. SPD timings which is 5-5-5-15. Love that RAM though!

that last part is a lie, you at first had ddr600 with 3-4-4-8, EWW! and after awhile of tweaking and a whole new mobo you finally got to ddr600 2.5-3-4 or 2.5-3-3 or 2.5-4-3 or one of those things.

and ballistix are good, they just need a fan and some loving.

(cf)Eclipse

a lot of loving and tweaking. it always threw me off when i had to tighten up a lot of the secondary timings to get my 5b G stable at lower mhz

also.. these ballistix + asus a7n8x = bad idea.
takes 2.8v to be stable, and only likes the outermost slot. i can easily max out the board with 2.5-2-2 though.. hahaha ;)

im telling ya, if you sink up that southbridge and like, volt mod it or something, i dunno, or tweak timings, you might be able to get like 220 2-2-2-5.

the real problem is that if something goes wrong, my mom is gonna be the one to troubleshoot it. i'm not sure if she's quite astute enough to figure out that the mobo died when the computer starts randomly rebooting. i guess i'll have to give her my msi k8n neo + 3200+ clawhammer when that happens.

thought i'd bump this. remember how i ordered another stick to make a 5b D set? i'm unlucky in the best kind of sense?

http://eclipseoc.com/phpwcms_filestorage/1/1_106.jpg

i saw that batch.. but then i saw the .16TG in the little sticker. it's a double sided 5b G stick. strange eh?

the bad news - my opteron won't boot with both sticks in
good news - this stick is liking 260mhz or more with 2.8v at 2.5-2-2 timings. definitly the best stick i've had my hands on yet

Some recent batches of Ballistix have given people trouble. Until recently I had a 2x1GB set which steadily got a lower and lower maximum clock until they couldn't even run stable at stock speeds. They were also running extremely hot even though I had a 120mm fan blowing directly on them.

I RMA'd and now I've got two OCZ Platinum DDR500 sticks running much cooler and much more stable. I'm not sure what the deal with recent Balllistix sets is but if you can I would RMA for another brand IMHO. If they work for you that's great though! :D

yeah, i was tempted to buy that OCZ a while back, but i'm a crucial fan at heart, it'll be hard for me to change.

this might make you guys laugh though

http://eclipseoc.com/phpwcms_filestorage/1/1_109.jpg

in order from top to bottom:

2x256mb bh-5 (kingston hyper-x pc3200)
2x512mb utt-bh (ocz gold pc3500 GX)
2x512mb utt-ch (mushkin redline pc3200)
1x128mb micron 5b C (crucial value pc3200)
1x512mb 5b D (crucial ballistix pc3200)
2x512mb 5b G (crucial ballistix pc3200)

the redlines are the only one of all those that don't break 250mhz :(

Did you by any chance rob the Newegg warehouse? :p

I'm really surprised/dissapointed that the Redline set doesn't break the mid-two hundred barrier. I haven't presonally bought Mushkin recently but in the past they've always been great overclockers. Even the Crucial value breaks 250!

(cf)Eclipse
11-30-2005, 10:39 PM
the crucial value actually has a shot at 265mhz with 2.5-2-2 timings somewhere on my computer
that second to last stick of ballistix (the one i got most recently) is in my computer right now, i'm doing stability testing at 290mhz ;)

but yeah, i dunno what's up with the redlines.. they're actually ccu's, he told me to test em out cause he was having serious issues with memtest, but i'm having problems too. we're currently trying to work out a solution for those problems :(

512mb stick of pc3200 ballistix, 5b D chips. i'll try to get some quick results up by 12 ;)

Hey Eclipse, how do I tell if my ballistix are the 5b D chips?

doh - 16TD

(cf)Eclipse
12-01-2005, 11:32 AM
oh, the 1gb sticks are all 5b D, because they're 64mb chips, 16 of them (double sided) makes 1024mb. if you used 5b G, you'd need 32 chips which isn't really very feasible ;)

Double Jesus
12-01-2005, 11:40 AM
heh, not with that attitude ;)

what voltage do you use to get the crucial value up in the 250s eclipse? I haven't really tried feeding mine more volts yet...

(cf)Eclipse
12-01-2005, 11:55 AM
the my 1gb stick needed 2.9v at 3-3-3 to do 263mhz superPI 32m stable, but i don't have that stick anymore :(
the 128mb stick needed 3.4v to get a 265mhz screen at 2.5-2-2, but max stable was around 250mhz with ~3.2v

(cf)Eclipse
12-06-2005, 10:28 PM
kinda a bump for a two of reasons.

1 - i got 300mhz stable at 2.8v:

http://www.eclipseoc.com/phpwcms_filestorage/1/1_110.png

2- CCU has my D now, and has popped the speaders on both sticks.
his, which was bought in mid-july, has 0524 and 0526 chips.. curious that the batch is mixed eh?
mine, which i got 2 weeks ago, is onlt 2-4 weeks later, with a consisitant 0528

Hey Eclipse, how do I tell if my ballistix are the 5b D chips?

So it would be best to run 1gb of ballistix(which is 5b D right) or 2 512mb 5b D?
I am gonna buy some ballistix soon but dont know which to go for.

(cf)Eclipse
12-08-2005, 12:15 PM
i prefer G over D, but G won't always be what you get. if you had to pick between 2x512mb sticks of D and a 1gb stick.. if you only wanted 1gb total and you have a dual channel rig, it should be obvious :D

also, something interesting... leave your spreaders on the ballistix unless you plan on putting actual ramsinks on, as i lost a few mhz that came back when i put the spreaders back on.. and yes, i'm actively cooled. this might change my whole outlook on heatspreaders :p
