Will this zalman ZM80C-HP (currently have it lying around) be inadaquate for cooling an X800?
It worked great passive on my TI4200... but on this card it would be like 4 generations of video card jumps. The cooler on the card now is nice, but a bit loud for my tastes. ATI tool can only slow the fan down by so much...

Picture included because ZM80c means nothing to me.

You might need a fan blowing through the heatsinks... which would kinda defeat the purpose of the fanless Zalman.

They recommend getting the VF700 for more powerful cards.

the zalman cooler run extemely hot, all of them do
I have even had problems with stock speeds with zalman coolers.

If you run the fan at like 20 percent and you can still hear it then you got amazing ears.
I can get you the original fan if you want it, let me know.
or even something quieter.

at stock speeds you may be able to turn the fan off if you have case fans on the card, watch the temps but that particular core ran way cooler than any other I had.

Hrmm okay
(fan off, no gets a tad too hot but 10% is nice and quiet and keeps it about 45c)
I notice my fans because my computer is relatively silent. As in my CPU is cooled with a zalman spinning slowly and my other fans are at 7v or below and for a while I was complaining about the noise coming from my hard drive :D

I have figured out how to use the auto fan speed control and it isnt too bad now... but I must say the current heatsink on the card is great when overclocking it can stay seriously cool when it needs to :p
