I just installed Quake IV and boy do I got to say the damn game single player is one of the best single player games I have played since Halo and Halo 2.

The game is so action packed walking around and blasting shit sky high!
The multiplayer is good too, but the single player is amazing!

All I got to say Quake IV get a 10 out of 10 score from me good graphics and a damn good game!

It does pickup really quickly, and I might add that Interval 10 and 11 are the shortest in the game. You're about done.

For some reason I just cannot get into Q4. The entire time I have been playing it it has just seemed to be "blah". I guess I have been spoiled by Half Life. Sigh.

Or maybe you need to spend more money on your system, and really see the eyecandy.

I see SLI in your future, sir!!! The Wife will be ok. Just dont tell her. :p

The only thing really cool about the game is the graphics.

But we already saw all of them in Doom 3, so uhhh ..

If Q4 had no undriveable vehicules, and no bitmap outdoors, maybe I would have like it.

Gotta play FEAR and COD2. Now that's what I call shooters

I really enjoy Quake 4 SP, then again I really enjoyed quake 2 SP so the progression is only natural. Quake is much more run and gun, then Doom 3 which was just creep around and wait for the monster to jump out behind you. The strogg are pretty badass, and I really enjoy the way there is constantly a war going on around you.

On a side note I was able to get this running at 1920x1080 with my moderate system. I turn off AA totally, as I use a 46" samsung and dont notice aliasing from my couch.

Specs:

BFG TECH 6800 GT OC
Athlon XP 2500+ OC to 3200+ speeds
1GB Crucial Ram in Dual channel
Maxtor HD
Samsung 46" DLP (dual link DVI interface)

Now I was under the impression that 1920x1080 was way out of my performance range, but it seems to be working very well for me. There is a small amount of overscan, but nothing crucial gets cut off. at 1280x720 it seems to fit perfect. I dont seem to notice a huge increase in graphic quality with 1080i, which has me concerned if I really am getting true 1080i or just 720 upscanned?

EDIT : I have to jump in and lend my support to Halo and Halo 2 single player. The single player was very well done, scripted sequences were very nice, and there was infintely more character development in both the halo games. I honestly think that Halo is still one of the best games, in terms of plot and character development.

I understand people criticise the ending to Halo 2, but this criticisim is undeserved. Its a freakin cliff hanger ending poeple, it makes you want to keep playing the game, and wishing there was more. Well thats what Halo 3 is for, and all those who criticise Halo 2 for the story, are kidding themselves if they try and make others believe they will nto be first in line to get Halo 3 and find out what happens on earth.

Not to rain on your parade but I have both quake 4 and fear.

Now for me I really liked fear; the story was awesome and the game play was a blast. Although I wouldnt have minded it a little bit harder.

When I played quake 4 I didnt like the game play at all.
- I like to play where I try to not die at all when I play - sometimes I even try to play without dying at all and starting over if I do. I found that I couldnt play quake 4 on any setting but the easiest else I would die way too much
:(
and so the game wasnt that fun for me.

The wierd thing is thou; I'm running a 9800np and the game did look great thou. No prob with the settings etc ...

quake4 was really the game i was looking for, it was just adrenaline through out the game, enjoyed the way it looked, sounded, and how it just grabs you and puts you into the story

wasn't exactly pleased with FEAR, i'm not going to say how bad the company is for making me spend $50 on a game i didn't really like, that is what playing is for :D how ever i kinda wish i didn't spend that money, couldn't bother myself to finish it, its on my shelf right now next to my bagillion other box sets i haven't thrown out yet

I remember when I started playing Doom3 I was trying my hardest not to quit after the first 5 mins of gameplay, but couldn't. Then MOHPA had an awesome first level in Pearl harbor, but then I got bored of running in jungles, Then same thing in HL2, COD series is the only serioes I have loved all the way through. Have not played Q4 yet :)

I concur that Quake 4 singleplayer is pretty fricken' sweet. There are some parts that are pretty arcady, mainly the parts where you're moving in something and shooting at stuff. But all in all, it's awesome, and visually stunning as well. It feels solid. I'm still playing it.

Am I just a physco ... or are the Strogg "processing" one of the best parts of the Quake franchise?
