View Full Version : where do you get your packing material from?
where do you guys buy your various sized boxes from? I would use those priority mail boxes but they're all "flat rate" and cost $7.75(?). I want to go by weight so you can't use those boxes. so what kind of boxes and packages do you guys use and from where?

Every place you can imagine has boxes, check with your local stores and ask if they have any boxes they want to unload and im sure theyll be more then happy to hook you up..
Packing stuff, well Newspaper works good, packing peanuts are good to, The last time i bought packing nuts i got like a tree truck size bag for like 20 buck, it last for a couple months of heavy shipping and filled 2 bean bags :D
Newspaper on the other hand, at least here, we get a free paper every Saturday, so when Monday rolls around i just grab the rest of whats sittin there and BAM, i got packing paper for a long time and at no cost.
I only use just paper if is something that isnt really brackable and and stand shipping handlers.
Bubble wrap is a very good thing for breakables and shit
You can buy alot of useful packing stuff from
Bubblefast.com
I use them exclusively for my biz for my packing needs.

Exactly. I use those or use packaging that I've received from before. Boxes, I always ship Priority so I have free boxes from them at the post office or at home...

Where Im at, theres always a box outlet type store and thats where I get my boxes. Ask the guy if he has "used" packing peanuts. I used to buy new packing peanuts until he offered me a BIG bag of used packing peanuts for real cheap. Yea, newspapers are really good packing material too. :D

Yea, make sure you get the boxes that has the USPS logo on them. At some post offices I see, they actually sell boxes and of course is not free. But if you ask the clerk for priority mail boxes, those are free. If you dont want to ship priority, just wrap it in wrapping paper and ship it the way you want.

I ship usps. I use boxes either from items I have recieved, or from work. I work for a picture framing shop, and our frame pieces come wrapped in good plastic/bubble type wrap, so I get miles and miles of that for free.
My buyers tell me I pack for world war 3 =)

If you ship via USPS priority, you can request free boxes through their site (http://shop.usps.com/cgi-bin/vsbv/postal_store_non_ssl/display_products/productCategory.jsp?prodCat=/Shipping+Supplies/Priority+Mail). They'll deliver them to your door, free of charge. And yes, there are boxes available other than flat rate. The only caveat is that they ship in minimum quantities of 25, so if you need multiple sizes you better have a place to put the extra. 25 boxes may not sound like much since they're cardboard, but trust me it's more weight and space than you'd think!

Most of my shipping supplies come from people I buy from...serious. Also when I moved into my house there were three gigantic boxes of some kind of foam material that works great for packaging, it's somewhat like styrofoam but a little denser, it cuts very easily and is quite easy to make a personalized package out of it. When I use it I just wrap cardboard around it because it aint goin nowhere. Boxes though...i don't even know where I get all my boxes...I just go look in the basement and sure enough I'll eventually find one that fits...I've got so many packaging peanuts from things I've bought at the EGG that I will never need to buy any ever.

Yeah I order all my boxes from USPS.com go over and make an account, then order all the Priority boxes you want. Only thing that sucks is that they have started to print on the inside of the box so you can't just flip them and ship them, without going priority or covering up the lettering. (not that I ever did this...)

I'm a saver ,too. I save all the boxes from stuff I order and buy including packing peanuts. I buy some good plg tape, And then you can flatten some boxes to save space. BD51

I save all the stuffs sent to me by newegg, monarch, frozen, jab-tech...I have enough boxes and peanuts and bubbles to last me for at least 5 for sales....I really need to stop this...It comes to the point where the UPS guy ask me if I want to set up an account with them
