Hi,

I'm new to the world of SATA hard drives. I've got an Asus A8N-SLI Premium motherboard with a WD 250 16MB drive.

What I'm wondering is if there are any tweaks I should know of to get the optimal performance from the drive? Like bios settings to change, etc.

Or if the drive is up and running, am I pretty much good to go with it?

shouldn't be much to tweak AFAIK
I think there's only one WD drive with NCQ
if it's a SATA 2 drive, you might check to see if it's plugged into a SATA 2 port and it's enabled, not that it's going to make any difference....

run some benches with HD Tach to see how it's doing

My WD2500KS, on an A8N SLI Deluxe, outperforms Raptors (73GB ones too  ) in other systems. I didn't have to do anything special, just plug it in and use the generic Windows ATA drivers. It's a beast of a drive, and you don't have to do anything special with it to enjoy great storage performance
