How slow is the transfer rate of a 2.5" HD on usb2?

I just pulled a hard drive out of an old laptop and put it in an external case. I wonder if something is wrong with it. It is so so slow! Should it be near the speed of my 3.5" external drive or 20 times slower?

laptop drives will run slower right off the bat typically, unless they are 7200 rpm. Also are you running it on usb 1 or usb 2.0 as that could change performance significantly too

I am running usb2. My 3.5" drive wanted to take 3-4mins to transfer 5 gigs where the 2.5" wants to take more like 30mins.
