Hey guys,

I searched the forum, but didn't find anything on this...

I got a new 74GB raptor today, and hooked it up according to the instructions. I unplugged my IDE drives just to make sure those didn't interfere.

Now, here is the problem:

1) Computer boots, and recognizes my 2 cd drives, but does not see the hard drive.

2) The sata driver loads, and my hard drive is listed there (there are two spots where it can list hard drives, only one has my HD listed... if that makes any sense).

3) Win XP cd starts, and says it cannot find any hard drive...

I checked in CMOS... no hard drive listed there...

A friend here in the office says I might need to disable raid? My mobo is an MSI K8T NEO if that matters...

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

-Chris

Is windows installed already?
WD has info on that.

You may just need to format it in windows. There is a way. let me see if I can find the link.

Windows is installed on my old hard drive. I unhooked that one.

Another friend of mine is saying I might need to install sata drivers when the windows installer opens? He says it asks you to press a button to install drivers off a floppy... I haven't seen that message before...

Any ideas?

I would just re install windows and make sure u have the drivers on floppy. Make sure you press f6 when it asks you to in the beginning.

Hmm alright, I'll try that. Is it true that Win XP has no built in sata driver in the installer? Seems kinda ridiculous if it doesn't

It depends on the chipset you are running. Some do, some don't. You have to remember the version of windows you are running was out quite a bit before sata hardware had even been finalized for a standard let alone actually selling them on the market.
