New system...need a fresh harddrive?

Im not sure about this but im about to build a new system...im upgrading the cpu, mobo, memory, and video card. I was wondering can i do a fresh os install on my existing hardrrive(from my old system) for my new system? or will i need a brand new hardrive? Help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Sure you can reuse your old drive, if you want to wipe it clean, just format it durring the install.

If you want to keep the data on the drive, do a repair install.

Alright helping you out would not be a problem.

Need a couple pieces of info first

Make, Model, and Size of your hard drive (located on the drive itself)
of you can go to control panel --> system --> device manager --> hardware
and look at the drive and get the info.

You'll have to decide what your plans or budget is?

Your upgrading all the main components. That'll be fun :D Don't let the hard drive limit you. Here's the answer is that yes unless the hard drive is on the verge of death no matter what you'll be able to use it. There are SATA adapters and etc you might have to look into.

But if your upgrading everything. IMO the hard drive is the slowest part of the machine as far as accessing the data (Not including optical drives) on "the bus" (things connected to the mobo. That could be the worst part about slowing down your PC.

My personal experience. Upgrading my memory to 1.25 gb is awesome. Theres a huge difference from 512mb and when playing online games it helps out alot for loaditme. But I had a slower older hard drive that limited my experience. Which could also give "lag" as most online players call it. (getting off topic)

Drives are going down in price. Buy a new one and use the old one for storage.

Mine is a WD 60gb 7200rpm hd. I will be updating later on this week. I will just format it now for my new build. Thx you guys.
