View Full Version : Is it possible to convert a RAID 0 array?

Hi, after rading a post about the lack of performance increase going to a striped array, I would like to either use my hard drives more efficiently as a RAID 1 array (for redundancy), or as simply two seperate drives (one for "programs", one for "storage" or something similar). My question is, does anyone have some ideas on how I can remap the drives? Or because it's RAID 0, will ANYTHING I do to it will erase the data?
Basically, I'm trying to avoid reinstalling XP and Steam and World of Warcraft and the billion little tweaks I do :-\
Any ideas/tips would be appreciated.

Depending on the controller you have, you might be able to do a 0+1 if you grab another two drives...
Otherwise you'll probably have to back it all up and reinstall.
Sorry.

If the amount of data is smaller than one disk, Ghost may be able to handle it. Ghost it off to another drive, or DVDs, and then recreate the array as a -1, and then restore. Probably your best bet at this point, unfortinately. Or as Order said, 0+1 may be an option, but that'd require 2 more disks.

Thanks, I pretty much figured that was the case. I've had nothing but problems running RAID on my board. Using the NVIDIA raid wouldn't even install windows, I guess you have to make a special windows xp disc as windows overwrites the drivers during install...which causes the install to crash  So I chose to use the Silicon Image controller (3132) and I keep getting BSOD's (IRQL_not_less_or_equal). Tried a bunch of drivers, bios's, firmware updates, default speeds (even underclocked) to no avail. So I guess it's a good time to reformat and start over. Thanks for the replies.
