Hey, i've been fixing my friends computer from all the spyware it had on it. I removed the last bit of it with spybot, and now I can't access the internet. When I open IE, it goes to about 50% cpu usage, the mouse toggles from thinking to pointing at a very fast rate, and no internet page comes up, it's blank. It says i'm connected to the network though... I don't think I can renew the IP either, nor can I release it. Any ideas?

Check out hijack this and post the log.
Perhaps you have a browser hijack program running somewhere or a trojan.

NM, i fixed it. I had to delete some winsock entries and then reinstall TCP/IP.

There is a great file that performs the exact task that you described. It can be found here:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

I run it on all machines that I clean for spyware/virus infections just because it's quick and it clears up a wide range of issues. If you are curious, the actual program has a small text file telling you the actions it performs.

Ahh yeah, i actually found that same program, but realized my floppy drive wasn't hooked up and i didn't want to burn a cd for that small a file so i just manually did it. Thanks for the reply though :D

Thanks for that link man! I'm sure I'll use it on my parent's machine. Every time I go there I gotta clean that thing up...
