View Full Version : HDMI over cat-5e
One of my Dad's friends wants to run a DVI->HDMI cable from his G5 to his HDTV. There is already 2 cat-5e cables run in between and I was wondering what would be needed to do it. It about 10' away. Thanks

uhm. . . . can't remember the number of connectors needed for HDMI off hand, but if your able to conjure up a custom adapter it probably could work. Cat5 cable is fairly excellent at transmitting signals due to it's low inductance.
Basic idea is that you chop the HDMI cable in half and attach a ethernet cable or two so that you can connect it to through the wall.

Gefen makes them and several other products www.gefen.com
HDMI Cat5e extender:

DVI Cat5e extender

Both expensive though at $499.
Not worth it imho for 10 ft.

Ya that's what I was thinking of doing.
Thanks for the extender links.
