I hate to make a new thread.. I'm really sorry. ;) Formatting early tomorrow morning and want to be sure I'll (hopefully!) have an answer by morning.. anyway: I downloaded both SP1a & SP2 in an .exe format. (120 - 220 MB each) Is SP1 required before SP2 would be installed? If it isnt, would only installing SP2 give any conflicts? Are most fixes that is in SP1 included in SP2, hence not requring the installation of SP1?

Just going for the cleanest install here, especially since I'm going to Ghost it and this will be my image for a few years. ;) Thanks.

Cleanest method is to slipstream SP2 onto your virgin XP disc.

I recommend using nlite. It is all click, no cli. Even my little brother can do it(that's saying a lot).

I'm planning on using nLite to remove a few components after the windows installation.

After the windows installation? nLite removes components from the install disc, but not from the OS after you install it.

Ah. I thought nLite had the capability also to remove components after windows installation.

Can you use a different computer to make an nLITE XP install disc?

Meaning...if I already wiped my computer, can I use a second computer to make an install disc with no ill effects on the the computer?

Yes..

Yup, did it today.

Great program by the way. Even though I don't think I added my SATA drivers correctly and thus still had to use a floppy to load them.

Yea. SATA and/or RAID drivers need to be added in textmode if you dont want to have to load them off a floppy. I think there may still be a limitation in slipstreaming SP2 - possible on Win XP, but not 2k

I've never used NLite. I've always slipstremed the files into the install files, then used ISO buster to make bootable files to be used on the CD. Then I burn it with Nero and bam, instant Windows XP SP2 install disk.

And no you do not have to install any patches prior to any service packs installation. All later service packs contain the fixes and necessary data from the previous service pack.

Except nlite does it all for you. I used to do the same, but I appreciate the simplicity of nlite.

If you're only wanting to slipstream SP2 into your XP disc, AutoStreamer is easier and more simply to use. nLite does some extra things, but I don't need to add any driver to my disc, so AutoStreamer does the job for me.

Big difference in being capable of and wanting. I can do it the old fasioned way all I want. Or I can use nlite which does the slipstreams, unattended, integrated drivers, component removal, etc all for me. Hrm, not a hard decision.
