should i update xp pro to service pack 2? i've seen it creates problems for some and the system i have is not online atm. can't find anyplace that just has the file - only that express install crap from microsoft. i'd like to just download the file and burn a cd, take it to my other system and install.

just built a new system and wondering if i need sp2 before installing any drivers, etc.

SP2 redistributable package (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&DisplayLang=en)

If you've not installed windows yet, it'd probably be easier to slipstream SP2 to your current windows disk.

from my mb manual:

' make sure that you install windows 2000 service pack 4 or windows xp service pack 2 or later before installing the drivers for better compatibility and system stability.'

cough...um, i need to install the drivers to get online so i can update. any other way?

all i have done is load wondows. no problem reformatting and reloading if i knew a little more how to 'slipstream' (my buzzword of the day) sp2 with the install. any help or links would be helpful. i'm looking at the microsoft link you sent. can't find the file anywhere - just their auto update crap. can't even surf the site using firefox got to be in ie. pretty sad.

take your windows disc and extract the i386 directory to your pc
take the SP2 Download from microsoft.com copy that into your i386 directory from your windows cd, burn to bootable cd, boom Windows w/ SP2 Slipstreamed.

Firefox doesn't support .asp (microsoft web coding) hence why you have to use IE

Bollocks, Firefox doesn't support the *activex controls* on Microsoft's site, it handles asp & .net just fine.

thats what I meant. but if there is .asp firefox has a 50/50 chance of handling it, I use firefox for everything but when ie7 comes out with vista I will use that because it will have tabbed browsing and it will be faster than firefox just for the fact thats its integrated into the operating system. wow this got off topic didn't it?

http://www.nliteos.com/ - a program that can automate slipstreaming and even do things like unattended installation and custom install discs.

That is NOT how you slipstream SP2.
