What is going on lately where suddenly people think this has any benefit???
1) When you install an application, you get to choose where it's installed.
2) You're not saving yourself any time or effort, nor are you protecting any data by separating your apps from the OS.
See the other thread identical to this from earlier today for my posts and several others for more detail.

You can also use a program like tweakui also.
Either way will work.

Better yet, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt. What applications are you referring to, and what's the reason why you don't want them installed in the normal, preferred location?

So you come here, asking for help on something that's absolutely ridiculous to do. Then, when asked for a better explanation of what it is you're trying to do, instead of answering, you call us fuckers. That's lovely.
Since you can't even put the effort in to describe your problem, why should anyone try to help you? Calling those people fuckers isn't a great way to get help on here either.
I'll say it again, that installing your apps out of the default C:\Program Files directory will give you ZERO benefit, and only create more work down the road in the event of troubleshooting. None of the apps you mentioned, have any trouble being installed in any other directories, but the point still remains, that there's no reason to do so.

Actually.. I might have an idea as to WHY the individual wants them installed to a location other then the root drive.
A networked terminal, such as in school or at work. Schools and jobs are getting paranoid about installing software and programs into their systems without express and explicit permission, because of all the rampant hairbrained litigation going on these days, as well as the blatant stupidity some people exibit after having installed unauthorised software.
However, if they have an external drive they just plug into a USB 2 port or Firewire... some people think they can end-run the violations by telling themselves "Oh.. but its not ON the schools network.. its on my little harddrive here!"
Wrong, no matter where the actual PHYSICAL location of the installed program, you have still installed unauthorised code and applications to a computer that is clearly not yours with which to do so, and any System admin who does regular checks is going to burn you for it :(
Don't do it.. do your game playing and software chasing at home.. not at work or school. Getting expelled out of expediency to avoid any potential for a lawsuit is NOT something you want to test or play with.

Ok, man, maybe the reason he called you fuckers is because you totally threadcraped....maybe it wasn't right to call you fuckers, but it was what you guys were being. It's none of your damn business why he wants to install something on another drive. That EXACT idea ran through my head once, installing progs ona separate drive, so I don't see why it should be any of your business why he's doing it. Did it occur to you that maybe he just wants to? Back off, shit in the toilet, not here. You say it's " rediculous to do"......and to whom? You? Oh, well, good for you...but you are not him.

Are you familiar with the other threads where several people, included some Microsoft Windows developers explained clearly why it was not a good idea? Are you familiar with the "Sheep Effect" in which people will do all kinds of odd, useless things to their systems just because someone else suggested it, without ever wondering if it "should" be done? Could and should are too different words, with two different meanings. The OP in question here has several posts a day with new issues and questions. Is it right to add even more possibilities of problems to his system? Look at it from a support standpoint, and you'll understand.

Hmmm, quackviper comes to mind.
djnes is right to question what the OP is wanting to do this for. There is no benefit of installing apps on one partition and the OS on another. If the OS partition goes down, the app drive is useless because the registry was blown away with the OS. If the app drive goes down the OS drive has a very dirty registry and no apps.
Plus you are halving your MTBF just like a RAID 0 array if your installing on two physical disks. Think about it.
What he SHOULD do though is create another partition or use another physical drive to save all his files and documents to. That way if the OS goes down, his documents are safe and he doesn't need to scramble to recover them. Combine this with a backup to a removable media and you're set.

If the OP wants to continue after hearing some advice (that's why he posted right?) as to why what he's doing may not work, or isn't the preffered method, that's their call. djnes is right to advise against it however, that's *his* opinion. You're really being quite the hypocrit when you say stuff like "it's MaXimus666's opinion, he can do what he want" when you're blasting djnes' opinion saying he shouldn't do what he wants (posting his advice).
I can be of the opinion that the Texas Rangers are a great baseball team, but it'd be ridiculous. However it's still an opinion, right?
You can't prove an opinion right or wrong, but some opinions are dumb.

This has nothing to do with an opinion, all he wants to do is change from c to d, that's all he asked...is how to do it....he didn't ask, "hey is this a good idea?" or anything else. I didn't "blast" anyones opinion, I simply got angry because people were posting shit that the OP didn't care about. He simply wanted to know HOW to do it, maybe you should read his post again...it's a simple, fewly-worded question, not a fucking debate topic. Sure he has the right to voice his opinion, and that's totally fine, I simply lashed out because of WHAT was going on, not WHAT someones opinion was....get it? sure djines has his point, as did everyone here, but the OP was very, extremely, *SIMPLY* asking how to do it, not "hey do you guys think this is stupid and useless? well, yell at me if you do, and insult me as well please!" what went on, my friends, is a threadcrapping, and THATS what I was mad about. not djines opinion.
EDIT: speaking of opinions, read what I wrote:
"Oh, well, good for you...but you are not him." so there ya go, that simply states that OPINION IS OPINION, and one will do what they want.

Do you have any clue how many people post simple "how do I do X, Y, and Z" posts and after some discussion they realize it's not the direction they want to go and end up doing A, B, and C.
djnes isn't thread crapping when he's trying to give advise, needed or not. You however haven't posted one helpfull thing in the thread. Who's threadcrapping again?
Drop it, please.

Granted, all he asked for was how to do something.. fair enough.
Most of the members of this forum however, are wary of giving out advice without knowing the context in which it will be used. We have no way of knowing if this is simple curiosity on how to do something.. (if it IS just curiosity.. it's what killed the cat and starved the monkey, and best to curb it or re-channel to something actually USEFUL for the user's time and effort), or an attempt to circumvent an established rule or restriction by Administration or Staff of the system in question?
If the OP would at least explain what he intends to do, why he needs to do it, and with what programs he intends to do it with, and to whom responsibility for the system in question resides... then it would be easier to advise the OP.

do you people have any sense of HOW things are written? can you not sense the tone? this will be my last post in this thread, then I'm unsubscribing, but look at HOW he wrote it....it's not what he wrote, but how he did. It screams "smart ass" and "psshh.the op is an idiot". read nessus' post; straight and to the point, the op was happy, end of story...but no, it wasn't, obviously.

you have points, but it's not our job to be sitting here interrogating and/or policing people on this site.

This forum is filled with elitist pricks who, if it weren't for the nazi administration, would get flamed a lot more. First of all the OP should see this (http://www.googleityoumoron.com). Second people should keep their opinion to themselves unless specifically asked because more often than not their opinions are worthless and pointless and only incite flames such as "fuckers." What's worse is if they don't even backup their opinions.

I am apparently missing some IE and/or Firefox plug-in that allows tone and emotion to come through. Now I feel left out because I simply have text only forum browsing.
