NT Login Override? Safemode?

Hi, Recently got a comp from a friend. It's NT and I am not familiar with it at all. Is there any sort of safe mode thing that I could execute when the computer was booting up so I dont have to dump the system (dont want to lose programs etc, they arent backed up)? Any help would be appreciated.

Try a linux based password blanking cd. Trinity rescue kit maybe..
